Seat recommendation
« on: June 27, 2005, 05:51:38 PM »

I am looking at a Corbin stinger “close” for my 05 SEEG.  Has anyone tried one.  I am about 5’9” with a 29 “ inseam and the stock seat is a little too wide and a little too far back.

What are any of you vertically challenged folks using on your SEEG’s?

Thanks,

I have some disco shoes left over from the seventies that helps me out at 5'8", seriously I don't have a problem with the seat.

Thanks,  I still have a pair of Black and white shoes from the early 70"s with 3 inch soles.

If the bike were black and white I would give them a shot. :-)

e4seter.......I have the same problem.  I would love to be one inch closer to the handlebars and have a seat that was a tad narrower in the front and a tad wider where you sit.  Have not discovered it yet....but if you find one, post here so I'll know.    [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] thanks, spyder

Spyder, Corbin will build you a dual tourer with the bucket padded out to move you 1-1/2 inches forward, they are doing it for me.

Yeah, but from what I've been hearing lately from numerous sources, Corbin's customer service has gone to chit.  And I've got enough problems w/o buying new ones.  Corbin built me a great custom seat for my FLSTN, but that was back when they could still be 'trusted'.......just don't know who to go w/ now.   I like the stock SEEG seat looks, but it could be improved in a couple of areas I think.   [smiley=brood.gif]  spyder

Spyder,

I am with you there...love the low profile...I am having mine replaced under warranty.  The rear part has several gaps in the cushion.  New one is in, just have not been able to go by the shop.  Besides, I have a Badlander on the Fatboy and a Donny Gray single on the custom...comfort now?

Enjoy!!

Jock, too bad they won't let you keep your old seat, it would be a good start on a 'custom' one......you know, maybe keep the shape, but change some of the form for gel and/or a custom cover!   See if you can talk 'em out of it....it shouldn't be a part of the bike that they're worried about being exclusive.    spyder

I purchased a Bandlander seat from Harley. It set me back $200.00 and some change. Its great for aroundtown but gets a little uncomfortable on long trips [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif]

Now that I got the artificial hip and the pain is all gone, I'm looking forward to riding with the stock seat again.  Before my accident, I never really had a problem with the stock seat and it looks damn nice.

I have thought about having Sid (Hotrodstitcher) re-upholester it using the Temperpedic foam that my new mattress is made of.  This stuff is increadable and it can be bought in sheets 2 1/2" thick.  Expensive, but worth it!  I think it would make a nice, comfortable platform on the stock seat pan.

Were else can you find out how to make your bike go faster, look cooler, more comfortable and get a mattress recomendation too.  That is so funny JCZ.  But, I will help you to endorse that mattress. Mr We fell down some stairs quite a few years back and did not go get help. Years later he found out that he had broken his back in a few places and he is in chronic pain ever since. We changed mattresses every six months trying to find one that would work for him. Finally we got the Temperpedic and have never looked back.  We have the pillows too, do you? Ours is now more than 6 years old.

I think you are onto something here about using that foam in our motorcycle saddles.  I will be happy to hear if you go this way, how it turns out.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

You might want to find out if it's a 'closed cell' foam......ie: won't absorb/hold water before putting it in a mc seat.  Wet butt is not pleasant.  Har!   spyder      [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

JCZ...
I'm sure that someone will "correct" me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that TempuPedic is the trademark name for memory foam, which is supposed to "mold to the impression of, not break down, provide excellent insulation, and be wonderfully comfortable to the body part presented to it... Originally developed by NASA for long term use in space, (although my understanding is that space cadets actually sleep suspended in zero g, without the need for a mattress.  They just tie themselves to a bulkhead in an enclosed area.  You know, to keep themselves from floating away during thier sleep, propelled by normally benign anal ventilation (otherwise known as gastro-intestinal flatulance), which can cause severe and last problems on a space station or shuttle).   I use it to pack high end firearms with sensitive sighting devices, others use it for beds, and now, I've heard a rumor, that it may be used to cuddle tushies on motorcycle seats!

However, it is technically referred to as a visco-elastic polymer

"Visco: resistant to change of shape.
Elastic: able to return to its original shape after being forced to change.

Imagine lying on a surface that senses exactly how far to let you "sink in" so that every point on the contour of your body is supported.

When you are not on that surface, it then "flows" back to its original, flat shape. This phenomenon is similar to pushing your hand into the surface of a bowl of water and feeling the water flow to fill every contour and curve of your hand, then return to its original shape once your hand is removed "

Which I refer to as bunch of hoo-haa, but may be relevant to this conversation after Spyder's relating of his preference levels for a wet tush...

However, using it as a motorcycle seat cushion could provide us with unintended health benefits, as this ad states:
"Good health begins with cleanliness. Dust mites have been a common problem with the thick padding that covers traditional innerspring mattresses. You can now avoid inhaling common bedding allergens such as dust mites while you sleep.

Tempur-Pedic products are naturally treated to be resistant to mites and other household allergens. Our products are also CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) and formaldehyde free.

Tempur-Pedic products promote a healthier you and they’re environmentally friendly. "

Now, since my a$$ seldom sleeps on the bike, and even less seldom inhales mites, I question whether the mite and allergen theory will do my a$$ any good, however, it may, in fact, help other areas of the anatomy by chasing off pre-existant bugs collected during the previous nights stay in  a natty hotel bed, which I am sure my significant other would probably appreciate...

In other words, it's fancy foam.   I truly hope that this provides some moderate amount of clarity to an otherwise very frustrating and complex issue.

Well, CoolBreeze, it sure does for me!   However, there's still that nagging issue of "will it absorb water"????  Har!   spyder     [smiley=thinking2.gif]
