Terrie and I are flying down to LAX a week from tomorrow to attend one of Mark's Ride Like a Pro West Coast training sessions.  I know that some of you have saw the videos that are out but I am curious who has actually taken the course?

Would you like to share your experience, pros, cons, etc.?

  • Great Ride!

I would love to take the course, just not on my motorcycle.  ;)  I have the video and practice a lot of the manuvers on parking lots. It's helped a bunch, but I think I could be a lot braver on someone elses scooter.

I thought he mentioned he did in fact do a fly-n-ride type training with some Kawa 1200s

He did.  Even offering a pickup at a local airport; or at least mentioned that as a possibility before.  I'd certainly be more inclined to take the course scarring up a fleet bike rather than my own.

just my opinion :  i think the reason you train with your own bike is so you have experience stoping and steering on your own saddle..i know it has helped me . you start out careful and end up confident.

Completely agree there would be benefit at the margins from doing this on your regular bike than an alien ride.  I'll still scar up his bike.

The West Coast Ride Like a Pro (Mark) has a fleet of ex police Kawasaki motorcycles.

We're flying in Sun. morning, he's picking us up at the airport, doing the course on his bikes, then taking us back to the airport Sun. evening to fly home.

You can use your own bike and they suggest that you wrap the bottom portion of your crash bars with pipe insulation or some such thing to protect them from getting scratched.  It's those "no speed" or "slow speed" situations is where most people drop their bike.
