HD STAGE ONE MAP FOR 103
« on: June 30, 2005, 06:04:16 AM »

I have a question on remapping. I see posts here at the site about the stage 1 remap from HD.  I installed a high flow air filter and  a 2 into one exhaust on my bike plus a power commander and had it mapped without the so called stage 1 ECM from HD in the bike. Later when I stopped by the local Harley Dealer I went in to the parts department and asked to purchase a stage 1 download for my 103. They looked at me like I was from Mars and didnt have a clue to what I was talking about. I then went into the service department and asked the same question. They told me that they got the download from the Internet based by the vin number of the motorcycle. What I was trying to do was raise the redline of the bike from 5700 to 6200 rpm. They told me that my bike had the latest map from the factory and all they could do was try and install a custom map to raise the rev limiter. So they downloaded some custom maps and tried to install them. Later I heard the bike on the Dyno. It didnt work. Rumor has it that for right now that the race turner from Harley is the only way to change the rev limiter. One more question trying to install the custom maps will this change the settings of the power commander even if the maps didnt take?

GRC I was at a Rally in Austin Texas a few weeks ago and stopped into the Harley shop and thought that it was a good idea to install a stage one map. Too my surprise the parts department was clueless and the service department told me that they got the map from the Internet  based on the Vin numeber of the motorcycle and my 2005 SE2 had the latest one. All I wanted to do was raise the REV limiter which can be done with the RACE TUNER ONLY.

Maverick, saw this and at least partially answered in the other thread you'd mentioned this in.  But here goes again just to make sure it doesn't get missed.

First off there is a Stage I map cartridge specific to our application.  It will raise the rev limiter.  When you're back again tell the shop to get HD part number 32926-03B.  That is a one time use mapping cartrdige.  It'll give an application of of FLHRSEI/FLHTCSE Stage 1 '03-LATER.  Should cost about $150.00.

As for the Power Commander.  You don't have to load the Stage I map if you're using the Power Commander.  The PC builds it's map from whatever baseline it has to work from.  The PC also does not raise the rev limiter.

So there's two reasons to load a Stage I map if you're using a Power Commander.  One would be to raise the rev limit.  The other would be to have the map that is more accurate for a bike with a high flow air cleaner and better pipes on the bike as a bit of redundant backup in case the Power Commander ever craps out.  It is literally only about a five minute job on the side of the road to remove a Power Commander so taking it out of the loop in the event of possible or suspected failure really is an option.  One thing to consider is that if you have a Power Commander with the common air cleaner and exhaust changes made and that Power Commander fails and is temporarily removed without the Stage I map underneath it the bike could be running very very lean.

You will want to decide whether or not you are loading the Stage I map first though.  The Power Commander builds it's new map from whatever baseline is on the bike.  So if you add the Stage I map after having tuned the Power Commander you'll then need to tune the Power Commander all over again.

Twolane is dead on as per usual.

If the store doesn't have the catridge that twolane mentioned, and you don't want to wait for them to get it, the same map is available on Digital Technician. If they hook your bike to DT and follow the appropriate steps as if they were going to remap it, there will be a list of calibrations available for the 103 that pops up.

I thought I read somewhere that power commander was coming out with a unit where you could adjust the rev limiter?

They made an announcement for that capability several months ago Magoo.  But the product never hit the street.  I read variously that it was going to be a different iteration of the Power Commander itself or that it was going to be a difference in software that would work with any PCIII USB.  So really don't know whether the change was going to be hardware or software.  But it's never been released yet.
