heck, I wish it was an exam.  Board, sits next Wed.  You get a briefer who has to sell you in 2-5 minutes.  yea/nea/maybe  They do that for all of the eligible Majors.  75% get it, 25% don't.  If it were a test, I would have some control!

Do you get to pick your "briefer" or is somebody (stranger) you have to sell yourself to first?

All my promotions when I was in were meritorious and had to go before boards to get them. I hated those things, I would sweat my a$$ off, and nervous as could be.

Total, I mean TOTAL freaking secrecy.  The members of the board are not released until the results are, and even then they are sworn to secrecy.  It is a No Chit way to get in trouble if you give specifics of the board you are on.  You aren't even allowed to tell folks at work what you are doing, you say you are on "HQMC Business"...like a code word.  No board, and you get someone not in your MOS most of the time.

Wow, that really sucks. How can the "sell" you if they don't know you? Do they (briefer) at least get to look at your records/accomplishments before the board so they can at least be familiar w/you?

They pull your OMPF (Official Military Personnel File) and FitReps, picture etc.  They may or may not know you - in a service of almost 200k its amazing how small we really are.  They look at your Professional Military Education, performance etc...  Combat helps, got lots of that recently and strong FitReps - got that.  What I also have is broken time and 3 MOS's!  BUT my latest new MOS had 100% selection rate for our group on last years board.

Will see in Jan!  Sucks to wait.

At least they get some type of picture of you and your accomplishments. You're right it sucks waiting.
