ezpass
« on: August 26, 2008, 06:15:35 PM »

I ordered an ezpass for my bike and was curious where riders are attaching it.  I don't have a windshield, any suggestions.

Take the transponder out of my pocket and hold it in my hand or teeth.

What kind of bike?  If you have saddlebags, try mounting the transponder in the lid of one of the bags with velcro.  Folks with Tour Paks can also mount it in the T-P lid.  If you have no storage on the bike, you can buy mounts for the handlebars specifically for the EZ Pass.  Try a google search or ebay.

On fairing bikes, some folks have actually mounted it inside the fairing just like the garage door opener transmitter.

I have mine in a windshield bag.  If you don't have a windshield, maybe some kind of fork bag.  Holding it only worked some of the time for me.  There is bound to be a place on the front of your bike for a small leather bag.

Thanks, some good ideas.  I'm going to velcro it to my sissy bar bag and see if that works out.

I've not had much luck with it mounted anywhere with any type mount. It has to be in the right place for the "eye" to pick it up. I find myself stuck at the gate at least 1/2 the time. I just rev my motor and they come pretty quick and pop it open. I've had the most luck (although this method fails sometimes too) with using the TBTA supplied velcro and mounting it directly on the windshield. ;)

The Fastpass system that they use out here doesn't have any gates. It just charges you when it picks up your transponder signal or off of your licence plate number, so on the bike I don't even carry the clumsy thing.... I really like the system because you don't have to even slowdown...

Ask them if they have a transmitter that mounts on your license plate,  Those are a lot easier to mount somewhere in the fork or front of the bike than the square ones.

How can they put a transponder on your plate, to open a gate in front of you, when the plate is in the rear only. The sensors here read you as you approach, not from behind? :confused5:

The receivers are mounted up over head and they can pickup a signal in an area about 7 feet diameter.

Howie, I believe he is talking about the outdoor version of the transponder that comes with a bracket made to be attached to the lower two mounting holes of the front license plate of a car.  The bracket would just make it easier to attach the transponder to something on the front end of a "naked" bike, like the lower steering head bracket perhaps?

Do you know if TBTA has those mini type receivers for motorcycles? Bikes have their own ezpass here, and pay 1/2 of car rates! :confused5:
