Man Builds 5-Seat, Keg-Outfitted Harley-Davidson Motorcycle
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

A Wisconsin man has proven that bigger sometimes is badder, at least where Harleys are concerned.

Steve "Doc" Hopkins of Shawano, Wis., has created a five-seat, four-engine Harley-Davidson motorcycle for the company's 105th anniversary parade this weekend in Milwaukee, MyFOXNEWisconsin.com reports.

"I think it’s probably more the novelty than anything — just getting four engines all to run in unison and together with the belts and the sound," Hopkins told MyFOXNEWisconsin.com.

It took Hopkins, the owner of a Harley dealership in Bonduel, only 17 days to construct the hog using four 1950s flathead engines, spare Harley parts, metal tubing and a beer keg.

"Just a Hamm's tapper," Hopkins told the station. "I got that at the Shawano flea market."

The project came as no surprise to his wife, Rhonda. After all, Hopkins spent five months last year building a pirate ship.

"He’s always inventive, always doing crazy things," she told MyFOXNEWisconsin.com. "I wake up in the morning and I think, 'Oh boy, what’s he going to tell me today?'"

It's still a bit rough starting the four-engine bike, but Hopkins has high hopes for the ride Saturday to Milwaukee for the big celebration.

"I have big expectations for it," he said. "I hope it makes it through the parade. It should be fun."

Can only imagine if Hoist & Hogbreath piloted this machine, which one would be the engineer or the caboose.

It has 5 seats, 5 handle bars, 4 engines and only 2 bags.  Is it still considered a bagger?   :drink:

Should be titled what to do when you have too much money and too much time on your hands. Couldn't get a link to the page to work this came off doc's web site.   www.docshd.com

"Doc's Timeline Bike"

About halfway through building the "Four-Tee-Five" bike, Doc was struck with another idea. Build a multi-engine bike that will show the progression of all Harley-Davidson® Big-Twin eras from the 1920's to present. Doc began gathering parts to build the seven engine chronicle of history dubbed "The Timeline Bike" in December of 2008. The bike will feature a progression of engines including a 1923 JD 1200cc, a 1944 Flathead 74" 1200cc, a 1946 Knucklehead 1200cc, a 1948 Panhead 1200cc, a 1981 Shovelhead 1340cc, a 1993 Evolution 1340cc, & will be finished off with a Twin Cam® Motor. If that's not impressive enough, it will also feature 2 front forks, 2 front wheels, & 2 rear wheels all in a line. Doc estimates that this multi-passenger bike will end up to be a whopping 23 1/2 feet long & will accommodate 10-12 people. More details will develop as he gets further into the build & works out the geometry on the frame. Just the seven engines alone will require 13 feet of length once they are placed in a row & yes....all seven motors will run!
The Knucklehead engine is proving to be the most challenging to find, however, Doc has recently located one. The photos below show the engines that will be used in the build, be sure to check back soon for more photos & updates on the progress.

Saw the Timeline bike under construction in June when I was driving Kandy's bike from Green Bay to St. Paul. Just the frame at that time. A trip to this dealership is well worth the effort. It's a real destination! Aligators, exotic birds, a small museum and tons of other stuff. If you get within 100 miles, take the side trip, you won't regret it. I do not work for this dealership or know anyone who does.
