Great report Free.  It was as much for you as him!  Got any pics of the bike loaded?  Two sleeping bags take a LOT of room.

here is the bike loaded. it wasnt bad. put the tent in the saddlebag, clothes in the other and one sleeping bag in the tour pak and the second bag and both pads on top of the tour pak.  Still had plenty of room for odds and ends in the tour pak.

Andy,

Glad to see you and your son are able to share this great experience....

but where is the other bike...not as comfortable?

/Bill

hey Bill - hope you are well.

yeah, it was a bummer i had to rent a bike. Being on a stock bike was weird - sounds like a freakin sewing machine. But then again, the stock bike worked and mine is in the shop - so what do i know!!

the funny thing is that i bought the bagger specifically because i wanted to take my kids on camping trips and when the time finally comes, its in the shop!!

Andy,

It isn't the bike that really matters as you well know.  I still remember my first ride as a kid your son's age, watched my dad's buddy do doughnuts in his barnyard on a brand new 440 Victor scrambler and then his kid tried (15) and dumped it and knocked of the muffler.

After that my dad and I ran it down some country roads, I still can hear that thumper with no muffler bang away as dad did slow "S" turns down the road shoulder to shoulder;  what a memory.  :2vrolijk_21:

no doubt.

having the rental did make me think about getting a regular tourpak (instead of my leather one) and having it painted to match. it holds more and if i am going to be camping a lot with my kids, the more storage the better.  Anyway, lots of threads on the detachable tour pak so i will start to go back and read some of them.

Giving the kid a couple of beers is one thing, but then to take all his money in a poker game after giving him the beers is just mean.   :bananarock:

Great report, thanks for sharing your story.   :2vrolijk_21:

Looks like the kid has won the toilet paper........he's way up on the old man :2vrolijk_21:

Your boy will be posting this  "great ride I took with my Dad when I was 10 years old" thirty years from now. I congradulate you for "getting it" when it comes to being a Dad a lot of dads just don't get it.   :2vrolijk_21:

Wow... great report.  Your son will remember and talk about this trip and similar trips to come for the rest of his life.

Really makes me wish my sons (now 24 & 29) were your son's age again.

Bike doesn't matter for this trip!

The one I saw in Nelson was a true one of a kind cvo and was hoping it was ok!
