CVO Road Glide Why So Heavy ??? HELP !!!!
« on: August 29, 2008, 02:40:18 PM »

What would make the CVO Road Glide weigh 60 pounds more than a standard Road Glide ??? I am thinking it could be to much bike for me at 880 pounds. Maybe i should stick with a Street Glide ????
HELP !!!!! I am 5ft 5in Tall, but am an experienced rider.
I have a chance to pick up a SERG but would have to commit before seeing the bike. It will be here in 3 days and i am sure it will sell before it arrives.

Because of the way the fairing mounts, once it's moving it will feel like a much lighter bike- lighter than a Street Glide.  Pushing it around a parking lot, you'll feel it though.  All of the CVO's are heavier than their none CVO counterparts.  This is typically offset by the significantly lighter wallets of the CVO riders!

No tour pak nor lowers on the new SE Road Glides.  Only things that jump to mind different intially are the rear fascia and saddlebag extensions.  Is the CVO bikes rear wheel and tire larger than the stock bike?

Whatever the differnce might be I'd not be too concerned about.  It obviously can't be up high so the CG won't be dramatically different.  By itself it shouldn't be a reason to scare you off the bike.

Amen to that John.  Listen to Arctic, he's obviously a wise soul.

ABS unit and the security system standard on the CVO would also add weight along with the tires/wheels being larger as well.

Keep in mind the lower CVO bike would offset some of that weight by keeping you closer to the ground.

I was going to through in the weight of chrome, but as stated before it is offset by the lighter wallet :bananarock:

60lbs more drool and slobber!!!!   The new frame and swingarm has added weight to the whole fleet.  Rims and tires, 110 engine...some chrome.   As much crap as my 06 RG has I dont think I will tell the difference.  I'm 5'6" and 180# .

So is the SERG that 60# heavier than a standard RG in the same year?  Was assuming so as premise of the original question.  If not, well, I still think the saddle bags look funky :P .

Don,
I'll venture that with the CD changer and the other extras the 00's and 01's SERGs were 60# heavier as well.  I know the 06 and 07 Cuse's were almost 80# heavier than the standard CU.

For you early SERG fans, the CD changer is a JVC unit and almost all the parts are (were) available.  It seems like the suspension donuts were the most typical problem.  They are fairly easily replaced.  Someplace I've got the JVC part # if anybody is insterested.

Dry weight of FLTR is 783 and SERG is 846.  SERG is a little over an inch longer.   :nixweiss:
