Hi from Germany or temporarily from Wisconsin
« on: August 30, 2008, 03:18:05 PM »

 :)
Hi guys,
My name is  Elmar, I got last year my stunning FLHTCUSE3 in Racine, WI, lived in Wisconsin since then and had to relocate to Germany last month. Damned I miss the 105th party. Job goes first :(
Found that forum while googling in order to find some support to get my bike licenced in Germany.
So far it looks pretty cool.
In a couple of days I will benefit from one of the few advantages of Germany - NO SPEEDLIMIT on some parts of the Autobahn. Let's see what my baby is able to do on that road test  ;D
Take care

Welcome to Germany.  The autobahn provides a good place to cruise, but I like sticking to the back roads...more sights to see.

As far as getting your license in Germany, it can be a bit of a pain.  I'm going to assume you're military.  USAREUR licensing requirements state that you have to have a USAREUR license before you can get plates for your bike.  Before the 10 min riding test, they're some classroom instruction and a 50 question test.  Hopefully you have a trailer to get your bike on post or you can find a bike to borrow for the riding test.  After that, they'll give you a temp license until you complete a MSF course (unless you've taken one in the last three years).  Then you can get plates and start riding.  It's also up to your unit what other requirements you'll have.  My brigade has a motorcycle club that meets monthly and does check rides in order to prove there's some command level oversight and that keeps the USAREUR level safety people off our backs.  About 2 years ago, there was discussion of not allowing US service members in Europe to ride motorcycles all together.  The motorcycle club was our way to prevent that.

This website will give you all the info for locations and times of MSF courses in Germany.  http://www.imcom-europe.army.mil/sites/management/so_atstp.asp#MSF

If you're not military, disregard all but I would recommend taking an MSF.  I've learned something every time I've taken one.

Again welcome, if you need more info PM me.  I'm in the Ansbach area and ride an 08 SERK.
