Painted parts delay ???
« on: September 01, 2008, 12:22:47 PM »

Ok, next week will be four (4) weeks since my painted parts were ordered. I am waiting on upper fairings (outside and inside), a fender, lower right side fairing, fuel tank, and saddle bag lid. I would love to get some input from members about how long I should expect to wait until I can get my baby back. I am TIRED of loaners (especially the street bob I have now) and want my Ultra back. However, the dealer is telling me that I will most likely NOT have the bike back this season since most painted parts (especially CVO painted parts) can take in excess of 12 weeks. Is this true ? Is there anything I can do to get the parts faster ? Has anyone ever seen CVO painted parts show up in 6 weeks ?

I think I may just buy another bike until I can get my Ultra back. This sucks !!! I cannot ride my bike since the dealer went ahead and did the 110 upgrade campaign and didn't want to put the damaged tank back on the bike. So my bike is literally in pieces at the dealer and they are giving me weekly loaners that are not even close to being similar to my bike... :confused5:

Check your state`s " LEMON LAW" . Most states have them now and remind the dealer than if your vehicle is not fixed within a certain amount of time that your going to file with the state. I know Pa. is 30 days, I had to use it on my first CVO.
No reason to have our bike down because of PAINT !!!

I wouldn't think the "Lemon Law" would cover painted parts that were damaged because of an accident the owner had. :confused5:

Was this an accident?? Missed the part in the thread where it said it was an accident claim ?? The author stated that the tins were removed because of the recall and since there were painted parts ordered they did not assemble the bike. So what is the real story?

This thread - BOY do I feel stupid !!! will explain. Don't want it to be taken that I'm not sorry about all the circumstances surrounding this and wish the poster had his bike back asap. I just don't think it's a claim for the Lemon Law. :nixweiss:

copout, the short answer is that no one can really tell for sure.  The quickest response occurs when you are replacing something on a current model year bike.  Once the vendor changes over to the next model year, unless they have what you need sitting on the shelf (they used to keep a certain number of parts in stock for replacements, not sure if they still do that) they will normally wait until they have a minimum number of the same color parts ordered before they paint them.  I had several parts replaced on my SEEG while it was under warranty, and the wait time varied between 4 and 8 weeks.  Unfortunately, my experience or anyone else's won't really tell you what you need to know for your particular parts and colors.

I haven't kept up with the latest information on the actual vendor for the CVO painted parts, but if someone has the information for the '07 models perhaps you could call them direct and inquire.  I remember one of the members doing that a few years ago when the regular order system seemed to be dragging, and the vendor was able to expedite the part he needed. :nixweiss:

Good luck.

Thanks, I may give that a try. Otherwise, I will just have to be patient.

Yes, this is a result of an accident that occured on August 3rd. The bike was still rideable HOWEVER the dealer decided to take it apart to do the 110 motor work and will not put it back together with the damaged parts. Instead, they have been more than generous by accomodating me with loaners but I cannot keep the loaners for more than  a week. I have a road trip planned on Sept 26th and would really like to have my bike back. Oh well, guess I will just have to look forward to next year.

This is a very difficult position they have put you on. One I don't see how/why they would do a repair that you didn't authorize. Seems odd they would take that liability upon themselves w/o you saying do it since this is not a mandatory procedure and you have up to two years to have it done. :confused5: Another point (since they don't want to put the bike back together) is are they going to give you any break/discount on removal and install of the damaged body parts? If they are complaining/concerned about doing redundant work (removing/replacing tank) of which might have been required to do the "campaign" that the MoCo is paying for I wouldn't think they could do that. :nixweiss: Now the fact that they are providing you a loaner (even though it's only a week at a time) and I'm assuming it's at no charge puts you in an awkward position if you were to raise a fuss. All these things taken into consideration you have to weigh it out and see if it's worth making a fuss or not. :nixweiss:

I agree 100%. The guy's at the dealer are not only the people who service my machine and sell me parts / accessories, they are my friends. I ride with them and we regularly attend events together. I had asked them to order the 110 campaign parts a week before the accident and they had done so. I didn't expect the parts to arrive so soon and they decided to go ahead and do the motor repair when the bike was on the mechanics lift and after the insurance adjuster approved the $7200.00 in repairs. I asked the mechanic why he decided to do the motor job and he told me that they had some down time and he wanted to get it done. I didn't raise a fuss since the gen manager has been nothing but nice and accommodating when it comes to a loaner and some other issues.

Honestly, I would really prefer not to ride the bike in the condition it's in since I am a perfectionist and cannot deal with looking at the damaged pieces on my baby. The dealer knows how I am and that is why they decided to tear the bike apart and leave it that way. I really cannot blame them, they are always bending over backwards for me and are nothing but nice. I just wish it wasn't so difficult to get painted parts from the MOCO !!!

I ordered a Vivid Black inner fairing from Chicago two weeks ago and it's on it's way via UPS as of last Friday. A couple months ago i ordered colored matched front and back fenders for my 08 Ultra and they arrived within 3-weeks. Try calling Harley's customer service and ask them on expected lead times for your parts.

Having ordered MANY CVO painted parts over the last few years I can tell you that there is no rhyme or reason with the delivery times. I have had parts come in in 2 weeks and some as long as 12 weeks. I have heard that it depends on the quantity of orders that they have for a color or scheme.....
