So I finally got it cleaned up and ready for it's pictures and debut. I purchased this 99 FXR2 two weeks ago from a seller in NY. It has 6200 miles on it and is all original, with the exception of the handlebars, as far as I can tell. I believe this is the same bike that GFLVette2 looked at and felt it was in 'neglected' condition. Fortunately, I was in the car business for a few years and worked several wholesale auctions. That taught me how to look beyond the road dirt to find a hidden gem. The seller represented the bike as 'mint' which is a little bit of a stretch, but not much. I just spent 4 hours in the garage with some some good cleaning supplies, metal polish, and wax. She cleaned up beautifully.
Mechanically, the bike is very solid. It arrived with an oil leak in the front rocker box cover, and a non-working rear brake light switch, which I just got fixed. Otherwise, it's cherry.
My first HD was a 1991 FXR convertible. I loved that bike and only sold it because I injured my back and couldn't ride anymore. A few years later, after my back got better, I bought the first of several HD touring bikes and currently own a '08 Road Glide, also maroon metallic. I've been jonesing for a smaller bike for running around and was checking out some Sportsters when this bike appeared. I knew that if the price was right I would have to buy it. So when I was able to grab it for $8200, the deal was done. I have been enjoying the hell out of it this whole weekend and I'm kinda proud to own it. I know HD puts out thousands of bikes every year under the guise of being collectible, so that word is pretty meaningless in Harley terms. But this is the first CVO and there are less than 500 of them out there if I read the story correctly. Plus, I know I'm riding one of the best bikes HD ever produced. Most of these guys that are new to HD's don't even know what an FXR is and have never enjoyed driving an Evo powered bike.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to being an active participant in this forum.
