I don't give a damn about Al Gore one way or the other, but he does have a rep for being intelligent, so I'd like to hear if anyone knows what his explanation for his claim of being responsible for the internet was. He must have had some rationale for saying it or it would seem based on other things he's gotten into that he did. As I said, this isn't me rah rahing Gore nor me dissin him, just curiosity is all, so if we could keep the response to the known facts I'd appreciate it. I admit to being totally ignorant to what his response was when he got trounced for making the statement

Did not find his response to this one except for this. During an interview with Wolf Blitzer in March 1999, Gore said, 'During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the internet.'
Technically he did not say he invented it, he claimed he "took the initiative increating it". I recall the interview & recall laughing about it since Gore was running for president at the time. At it's worst Gore's statement was a bald faced lie, and at it's best is was sheer exaggeration. Gore would have president if what I had predicted had come true. Clinton would not resign, so I was wrong as I so often am in matters of politics. If Clinton had resigned it is very doubtful Bush could have won in 2000, and the rest is history.....
There are tons of Dem & Repub talking points spinning this one, but as with a lot of urban legend type stuff, it is stuck to Gore at this point in time.
