CVO versus Stock plus SE 110 Upgrade
« on: September 03, 2008, 07:32:44 AM »

Greetings CVOers

I am new to CVOHARLEY.com   I am undecided about buying CVO with the SE 110 engine, versus stock and upgrading engine to say SE 110.  It is the engine that really matters to me 'cause I already have a real pretty bike.

The third HD I have owned is a 2000 Deuce, bought new in 2000. Added numbered paint set. Lots of chrome. Upgraded engine with HD parts to 110HP and 110TQ. 55K miles of no issue riding. Love it and will keep it.

I am considring buying either an '09 Ultra or '09 Road Glide. The new HD will be for long distance touring, while my Deuce will remain as my daily ride, and short 100 mile Sat or Sun rides.

So, do I go CVO or save a few $ and upgrade only the engine. I believe the dealer charge for the engine upgrade equivalent to the '09 SE is about $3K.

Of course this forum is biased toward CVO. That's good. But you also have experience. If you had to do it all over again would just do the engine hop-up or buy CVO.

Your thoughts really appreciated.

Welcome to the site!
Have to echo what Miker said, but I would suggest going to a well built 103 or considering a Jim's motor.
Unfortunately HD's fix is yet to be proven as a remedy for the issues that most of us are having or had.  I know of 3 upgrades to 110's that are having the same issues on FLHX's and would hate to see go down the road of looking to this site for some guidance and end up hating the end result.

Personally I would tell you since you want the power to spend the extra 4 to 5 grand over your expected purchase put in the jim's 120 and throttlebody and AiM clutch add on with the SE Heavy Clutch Spring if you don't buy a CVO and roll down the road reliably with all the power you could want.

Welcome to the CVO site from Washington State. My experience would say go stock and build from there. I personally loved the 103 with a few mods. to enhance it even more. :bananarock:

Welcome from western NY.  Save your money and keep it stock for a while.  Get the extended warranty and use after market parts for an upgrade when the warranty runs out.

Unanimous. No fence sitters here. Strong recommendations. Many thanks.

Instead of Bull Duck can we just call you Drake?  Or is that your name you don't want public on a web forum?   :-X
