Charlie Gibson of ABC is a moron! Once again Palin ROCKS. When this imbecile of a reporter repeatedly hounded her about the funding for the "bridge to nowhere" and why her state hadn't returned the appropriated funds, she used a football metaphor and replied "in the real world, sometimes you have to call an audible and change the play." This woman can clearly think on her feet.

I guess she should have been standing when he asked her what the Bush Doctrine was and she tried to BS her way out of it.  Gibson did an appropriate follow up question to flush our her lack of knowledge in what is one of the most controversial elements of the Bush foreign policy.  Risky strategy letting her stray form her handlers.

By the way "changing the audible" is what the Bush people used to refer to as "flip flopping"  I guess it's an audible when it's your people doing it and flop flipping when the other guys do it.

Gibson framed the question on the basis of the 2nd media attributed "Bush Doctrine".  Her answer paraphrased the 4th, once again media attributed, "Bush Doctrine".  Unprepared, Gibson attempted to play "gotcha" while being totally ignorant of the scope of the question.

Brian, kinda-sorta.  She didn't get anything wrong.  But she tried to be too nice in getting it right.  And in that she did screw up a little.

No one is ever going to make any money betting over or under on definitions of the "Bush Doctrine."  Because there really is no such specific definition.  Where she dropped the ball was missing the opportunity to separate the campaign from the White House.  It's something they need to do more of.

She should have said:

"Well Charlie (in that tone you'd give a third grader who just asked something a first grader always knows), one of our problems is that the President has had some sound strategic ideas.  But we've never really had an all encompassing doctrine.  Of course you knew that already didn't you (flash a big winning smile).  But I can promise you this.  With his experience in uniform and in the Senate the new McCain administration will give us one.  And it'll be something our enemies will think twice about messing with."

or something like that.....

Yes Sir!

Damn it.
Wondered how long it would take for someone to notice.
Figured it would be you or Brian (the evil eye).
Brian must have been sleeping!

And it's teal, not green!

Governor Palin:  Now Chip, we've been lacking a Jalapeno doctrine for a long time.  It's time we remedied this little problem.  You don't want me to get out my whip do you :whip: ?

Exactly my point on the "Bush Doctrine", Don.  It is, from moment to moment whatever the media defines it to be.  I like your speech and also feel it is time for her to "take  off the gloves" when apparent interview civility and a condescending attitude are apparent.  In my opinion, her rectally inserting a reply such as yours is well within her ability.

Understood that was where you were going.  She just didn't make the point as directly as she should.

They are discovering how much the campaign has energized a base they were not sure would wake.  It did.  Enough so that McCain can't draw a big crowd unless Palin is there with him now.  That's already changing travel plans for the next 50 days.

They've got enough attention to they need to more directly respond to the other campaigns continued efforts to run against Bush rather than McCain as they attempt to make them appear to be one in the same.  McCain needs to say "hey, remember, I ran against this guy too!"

McCain started a few baby steps away from the party line and back toward his old self at the end of the convention.  With Palin energizing the 2nd Amendment, religious conservatives, abortion rights voters and a lot more white women then most believed would join the fray the old McCain better grab the middle.

McCain was who he needed to be to win the nomination.  I think nomination McCain needs to take a backseat to prior McCain as part of a McCain/Palin combination to win the election though.

I don't see it as flip flopping if you are openly admitting a mistake and doing something to correct it. They were building a bridge to nowhere that no one needed. Instead the state (she) took the funds and used them for other infrastructure projects. Now don't go telling me that all the money should have been sent back to Washington. There is a clear disproportion amount of the gas tax that is supposed to go towards infrastructure. States like SC and AK contribute far more than they get in return.
When was the last time a Democrat admitted they were spending money in the wrong place and then stopped?

Absolutely.  Ms. Palin successfully stole the "Change" theme and McCain needs to deliver on the turnaround.  Your comment on the white women demographic also amazes me.  They are definitely, in numbers, in play.  Speechless, after my conversation last week with a lady client and friend who strongly represents the Beverly Hills left advising that she was sponsoring a Palin fundraiser at the Bel Air Country Club, I am amazed at the "moms" jumping into the fray.  I'm not suggesting that CA is McCain territory, but conclusively, I think there will be some real demographic surprises come election night.

Look, with the exception of TC and his better 1/2 Diva, nobody on this site plans on voting for Obama/Biden so why don't we just keep this thread to our future Vice-President's feminine attributes. IMO that'd be a lot more entertaining than doing our own talkin head show
