accessory switch
« on: September 05, 2008, 11:47:22 PM »

Has anyone used thier accessory switch? I want to use this switch to control some aplified speakers. According to the manual, there is a plug under the fuse panel that is controled by the switch. My dealer was out of the other half of the plug so while I am waiting, I used a volt meter to detirmine which of three pins I need to use. The switch seems to have noeffect on this plug. Anyone used thier accessory switch yet?
Thanks!

I didn't do the work, but I use it to turn on my Zumo and 2 Amplifiers. I believe we hard wired it to the switch and don't use any plug! ;)

The switch (left side of steering neck) controls the Orange wire in connector position 3 , +12VDC  from 15AMP P&A Fuse
Orange /Red in position 1 is unswitched +12VDC
Black is ground
Red/yellow position 2 is on with lights +12VDC

Here's a tip to save some work:
Instead of buying and assembling the connector, buy the one into two harness for that connector.  You can plug it in, then take one of the connectors and use it as is and the other you can cut the connector of and wire it up as you wish.   You can then use it for LEDs etc on one of the +12VDC feeds and another for a switched item.  And you don't touch the harness.

Switched Circuit Adapter Harness

This harness allows two accessories to be connected to the switched accessory circuit featured on '94-later Touring models. You then may switch two accessories on or off simultaneously (not unless you want them to both be switched off) as required.

 70264-94A
Fits '94-later Touring models.

MSRP US $17.95

On my 08 SERK I use the accessory switch for a 12v power adapter that was mounted in a nice spot on the brake master cyl. cover to plug in cell phones etc. The connector is in front of the battery. I see there is another similar connector mounted by the fuse block (not the ECM adaptor that's right next to it) but don't know how it is controlled, whether it's hot all the time or what.

Is that in front (between the battery and fuel tank or behind?) I looked inbetween the battery and tank and can't find anything unless it is located way down deep. I am wanting to power speakers and am hoping I can power them indipendently from the ignition switch. I would like to be able to turn them on to use them without turning the ignition on. I would like to do everything with plugs so I really don't have to modify the original wiring. I did come up with a neat plug for power. Kuryakin makes a nice chrome housing with a clamp for 1" bars that has a ciggerette lighter in it and a weatherproof cap. I had to also get thier 1 1/4" clamp for my bars. I wired that direct to the battery. It even comes with a fuse holder and fuse. Thanks for all the help.

I use it to power my zumo and wired it my self.

I bought the Supplemental 12v Power Point (91843-97).  I cut the socket portion off and spliced in the zumo power cord into the wires and plugged in straight into the connector.

Works great.  No problems.

Hey dereck,

Thanks for the tip on the power point adapter.  I am going to use it with my Garmin Zumo and I was wondering if it turned off with the accessory switch, but I went ahead and bought it, installed it and you're right, it works great!  (Hardest part was removing the battery to get to the accessory plug!)  And YES, it does turn off with the switch.  HOORAY!

Thanks again for the part #

I use the switch for the passing lamps. In Europe these are sold, believe it or not, as "fog lights", and require a separate switch. He he he .

Ride safely,

I use it to power my Lenale engine cooling fan. Plug was hard to get to but accessed it without battery removal.

Accessory Switch?  Is that the switch on the left side of the fork housing that doesn't do anything when I flip it?  Does it feed the connector under the seat?

Yes, it is already wired to power an accessory, my fan had the same plug so it was a plug and play system.

That's what I thought.  Thanks for the quick answer.   :2vrolijk_21:

Has anyone used thier accessory switch? I want to use this switch to control some aplified speakers. According to the manual, there is a plug under the fuse panel that is controled by the switch. My dealer was out of the other half of the plug so while I am waiting, I used a volt meter to detirmine which of three pins I need to use. The switch seems to have noeffect on this plug. Anyone used thier accessory switch yet?
Thanks!

The owner's manual is wrong!  The connectore thet you are referring to under the fuse panel is NOT the accessory connector. It is a data port.  The actual accessory connector is a similar Deutsch connector and is found just in front of your battery.  I spun my wheels for a while on this, same as you!   grrrr....  By the way, your dealer will be happy to sell you the mating connector and pins to use this connector for your heated gear or anything else you choose to connect to it.  I paid less that ten bucks for it.

It is hard to find in front of the battery( three wires in a grey connertor). I had to take the battery out to get to it. And I use mine to power my light isolator for the trailer lights on my Bushtec, It saves the isolator when not in use to be powered down (as per John at Bushtec).
