Went to Harley Davidson of Dallas this past Friday(yesterday) for the Harley Demo rides. Rode the 09 SERG first---Orange/blk. Loved the bike. Windshield wasn't as bad as I have read here , but if you're a serious rider then you'll want to replace it with something taller to fit your height. The shorty is basically worthless for wind and element protection . But again not as bad as I have read on this site. I was real disappointed in the fairing glove boxes. For 31k plus tt&l you would think they could have come up with something better than this. Cheap , Cheap , Cheap. Flimsy doors. You have to turn the handlebar out of the way to open them also . You get a nifty little cover that supposedly sheds water for the exposed air cleaner when riding in the rain. I was concerned about that. The tech guys say it works. For a lowered bike the suspension was surprisingly good. A little more firm than normal , but the whole bike has that feel. Very smooth and firm all over. Handles really well and doesn't feel heavy at all even though they are about 40 lbs heavier.
Next I rode the SE ultra--Autumn Haze/electric orange. Noticed the 889 lbs immediately when lifting it off the side stand , but quickly went away when I let the clutch out. Bike makes lots of noise through the air cleaner when accelerating, probably needs a less restrictive filter. I wasn't too impressed with their new supposedly suspension seat. My ass was burning after only 2 miles . Also its got some imitation looking shark skin sewn into the center , looks really cheap! I don't know why HD doesn't let Mustang or Corbin or someone make their seats. Theirs just don't work if you ride much. I know very few people that ride long distances that keep the stock seats. Fly by wire throttle is pretty much on or off. That would take me some real getting used to. Both bikes were like that with the SERG being the worst. You can't feel the motor anymore. Its a real artificial kind of acceleration and you have to use very light hand pressure. The slightest bumps in the pavement will make you move the throttle and the response is very jerky. Like I said---on / off kind of feeling. All that aside the motorcycles were nicely painted , plenty of power, comfortable , great sound, super suspension , suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper brakes. That was probably the highlight ---the new ABS brakes. What an improvement. Lastly-----31k and 36k respectively is in my mind getting a little ridiculous. These bikes should be in the mid 20's range I think. Also the color matched lowers for the SERG are $200 higher than lowers for other harleys in their catalogue and they are not even vented. This is gouging! The color matched chopped tour paks for the SERG's are $1199,and a solid color chopped for say flht is $724-------$475 higher. That says to me , we know you can afford it so we are gonna charge it. I have a friend in the body shop business and he says the paint is not the problem ---they are just gouging! So there you have it . My opinion-------use it for what its worth.
