CHROME ISSUES CONTINUE
« on: September 06, 2008, 11:05:49 PM »

I am still having chrome flaking problems on the mags.  I was detailing the bike and noticed the front mag is losing chrome.  It is my  4th mag

Anyone else noticed this ongoing problem... I thought it was fixed but I guess not..  Thanks god for extended warranty

Wow, man!  I haven't had a problem since the original front wheel and all the floorboards and transmission top cover were replaced within the first year or so.  Can't believe they haven't figured out how to do these wheels yet. :o  Haven't the Detonator wheels been discontinued?  I hope you can still get the one you need.

I hope you are wrong or I am going to be upset.   By the way you better check your mags really good

I just noticed my back mag has two cracks in the chrome which is exactly how the front started at least on this set

I have a front mag flaking/ shedding chrome again.  Note this is the third Mag  (one back and Two front ) that this has happened to, yet the dealer claims it is not covered under the extended  nor the MOCO will  cover.  I realize it is an 04 but it is exactly the same thing that occurred on the other mags as evident by the photos I have.  I am not ready to fork out 1200+ for an issue that is not my problem.

Anybody have a similar  experience or solution...Any recourse

Original wheels on my pumpkin were flaking when I bought it 2 years ago w/ 2500 miles on it. Had several months of original warranty left and dealer took pics and said they would 'take care of it'. Now, 2 years later, I have a bag full of chrome pieces and the new GM at the dealer said 'Sorry".

I believe I might try calling HD Customer Service again (waiting 30 minutes on my dime isn't fun), and tell them that as the chrome falls off, I'm afraid corrosion is going to cause the wheels to fail, leading to serious injury or death to the rider, with an ensuing class action suit. >:( >:(

Hi,

I am a french man who have bought one of the 8 Electra CVO 2005 in Red Candy imported in France at the end of 2004. I have the same problem of chrome on the back wheel. I have asked professionnals and they told me that it's a poor quality. Normally that should not happened. It doesnt appear on the front wheel and I thought that it was because everybody could see it, which is not the case for the back wheel.
I think that Harley knows that but it will cost too much to replace the wrong pieces.

Yup, I was washing the cherry the other day and sure enough, the chrome on the back wheel is bubbling and getting ready to chip. I thought that this was just an 04 SEEG problem but I guess not. Very sad.
