Parts do not just melt on their own.

It just keeps getting better and better, and only two years into this.  Imagine what's coming?

Bingo!  Assuming the MoCo didn't buy a batch of discount Chinese crank position sensors made out of taffy, these things don't just melt for no reason.  I wouldn't trust the bike until the root cause is found.

btw, there are two CKP sensor related DTC's, P0373 sensor intermittent, and P0374 sensor synch error.

This threw no code whatsoever. The sensor was wiped out. The magnetic was gone, with the wire coil exposed on the sensor end. Where's all that chit that broke/melted off? We all know where that stuff is now! Joining worn tensioner shoes in the OP!!! ;)

It will be interesting to see what the dealer says/does about this.  They are closed today...I will update after speking with them.  Ya never know they might be made of taffy!

You guys are REALLY making me paranoid on taking delivery of my SERG

I understand that .012 for crank runout is excessive (I think my 355 has less than .00125 in its current as built condition)

So... the fixes for this are repairing the crank (Fixing the MOCO's issues) Replacing the crank (suppliers?), Oil Pump, Cams, etc etc?

Doesnt Jims make a 128 bolt-in for the 96" motor?

Jims makes a 120 and a 131 bolt in motor...  But I wouldn't worry about it.  I think most of the 110 problems are old news now - and if not - just fix it and keep riding - there's lots of options!   :2vrolijk_21:   Enjoy your new ride!

Jim's has a 120 and a 131 for these bikes. They are the only engine available besides HD! You can get an S&S forged crank and convert your cases to a Timken bearing design (like I did), instead of a new engine, and build your own. There aren't many choices since HD changed their design on the '06 Dyna and all subsequent Big Twins. HD and Jim's are it! That's why I built one from scratch! The stock motor is junk! ;)

Since the crank runout (excessive) seems to be the root of the problems, I'd gather the S&S crank and Timken conversion are good ways to alleviate problems?

So far, the 96 in the 08 SG has been good to me despite me not always being good to her. It looks like I'll be keeping the SG and making the SERG the "pretty bike", which meants the SG will need more power to keep me happy...

I think my SG will wind up being the more fun bike in the end..... LOL

UPDATE:

My bike was at the local Harley dealer for about 4 days last week.  I picked it up on Saturday after they replaced the Engine Temp Sensor, dropped the oil pan and inspected the oil and the filters for signs of potential problems.  The oil was black as if it had not been changed for about 10k miles when in fact it only had 1k miles since the last oil change.  The condition of the oil was the result of the extreme engine temp that also resulted in the melting of the Crank Position Sensor.

The local dealer indicated they spent hours checking everything that the moco suggested.  The result was that nothing was actually corrected except both the Crank Position Sensor that I got from Howie and the Engine Temp Sensor along with the oil the dealer changed.  I put about 500 miles on the bike since picking it up and the engine temp never went above its normal operating range.  The response and the power from the engine seemed less than what it was like prior to the extreme engine temp.

Not sure what to do next or what will happen.

SO I assume they changed the oil while they were there?

IIRC someone made a larger capacity oil sump for the TC motor, correct?... additional volume would help reduce temperatures, as would a larger, more efficient cooler (maybe not practical though)

All of this is getting on my nerves...

The good news is I got an email from a buddy here who just got his Silver/Blue SEUC
