Help required with passenger floorboards on 07 SERK
« on: September 10, 2008, 11:11:23 PM »

Picked up the Ironside passenger floorboard kit yesterday. HD Part guy nodded when I asked if the install was straight forward. Hmmm!
No written instructions to fall back on once I' had tried everything else so here I am up sh*t creek without a paddle.
Brackets and everything went together piece of cake. Getting the insert into the holder looks like it just presses into the thing and should stay in there. Wrong. Rang the dealer today and spoke to the parts guys, NO HELP. Spoke to the service guy and he asked the mechanics who were busy but they suggested I put some grease on it and pull it through with pliers. They clearly did not get the information correctly as that is c  rap.
Any of you guys done this job could maybe help me out with how it should be done?

Some silicone spray on the rubber pads where the pins are helps them seat into place.

See if you can get your hands on a product called Rubber Grease, you don't need a lot. Any good silicone or Teflon spray would help if you can't get the Rubber Grease.

Hi Dude. Yeah the side where the pins are does not seem to be the problem it is the other edge with the two square holes are that does not seem to want to fit into place.  Push em down but they don't lock in. Even tried using a little clamp but that did not do it either. Is it perhaps like fishing where one has to hold the mouth at just the right angle???? :confused5: I will try some lube though to see if it does the job. Thanks.

Yeah thanks for the help. Will try some lube and give it another try. Don't really want to have to go back to the HD guys and tell em i'm whipped on this.

I fitted a pair of these onto my pals bike when we were in America the other week. I just used some liquid soap from the restroom at the HD Dealers we were at. Worked a treat.

Good luck.

Fitted them to the bike tonight. Left side problem. Cannot tilt the floorboard up as it will contact the primary cover. Sent off message to Dealer to see if there is a bracket kit for CVO that will solve this issue. Any ideas?? :nixweiss:

Don't think there is a specific kit for CVO. I used the chrome kit (as we did for my pals bike) fits fine.

Either of these two should do the job.

Adjustable chrome bracket Part No. 50768-07
Chrome bracket Part No. 58070-07

They supplied me with Chrome Footboard Bracket # 53070-00. I will send the numbers that you have supplied and ask them to supply those. Do I need both?

Sorry - I got the second number wrong. It is 53070-00. This is the part I have for my bike. Fits OK.

What year is your bike?

The other number is for a seperate kit but it is fully adjustable. Check out the 2008 HD Parts manual for a fuller description.

Kiwi,

Ironside inserts are only made in the swept back design.   P/N 52312-07 for passenger inserts.  Therefore, the only Passenger Footboard Kits you can use are either swept wing kit 50357-04 or 50716-04.  Passenger Footboard Mount/Support Kits are either of 50768-07, 52714-04 or 53070-00.  See pp 455 - 457 and 575 of the 2009 parts manual.  Hope this helps.
