Homes For Our Troops Helping with part of the legacy of 9-11-2001
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:38:30 AM »

As many of my friends here already know, my wife and I enjoy doing our tiny little part to help those who help our country preserve it's well earned freedoms. Just wanted to share this link to Homes For Our Troops and the home we are helping with. This is a great way to repay (for a lack of better terms) the fine military men and women who have made sacrifices many of us can not fathom. Please consider participating if this opportunity comes your way. Here is SGT Jeffrey Guerin's home in progress     http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageServer?pagename=SGT_Jeffrey_Guerin

These wounded warriors cannot forget 9-11-2001

Thanks,

Howie

Hey Howie, our local "Habitat" is just getting ready to break ground, All the permits are in place and a go, but they still haven't "qualified" a vet yet.

I'm not sure of Habitats "qualifying" processes Duane but as you know there are no shortage of injured warriors in need of adaptive housing. The following is a link to a national interactive map Homes for Our Troops uses to show current projects.

You may remember Rocky assisted in the hardwood floor installation here http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=29224.0  It's quite a thing to watch the emotions when the home is turned over providing independence we all take for granted.

This is a cause we have supported for awhile. One of our employees ran the Boston Marathon on the Homes for Our Troops Team ealrier this year. Just a great cause where a little goes a long way, so give what you can.

Howie - we also have a Homes for Troops thing here i Jersey, in fact they were doing a final cleanup today for the house.

My local HOG chapter is channeled with the Local Habitat For Humanity, which is a "low income" thing.

This year, because of the people involved/stepping up the occupancy requirement was for a 30% or more disabled VET (or surviving spouse).
They get the house at a discounted rate, no interest loan for 20-30 years and reduced taxes. They have to stay in the house for 10 years.

I know it took awhile to get applications (seemed due mostly to "pride"). They had about a dozen and have slowly whittled it down to the final 2.

Today we dug the foundation.
