True Duals
« on: September 11, 2008, 06:26:37 PM »

First of all let me say "Thanks in advance"...as this subject is beat to death I know and opinions are like "A-holes"...everybody has one, but on to my question....Who out there has "Rinehart true duals/headers" on their Screaming Eagle?  I have a 2008 Ultra-Classic 105th edition SE3 and would like to put "true duals" on it.  I am currently running "phthons" and like them a lot but think maybe "true duals" is the way to go.  Who can help me out?  Thanks again and ride safe!

I'm partial to rhineharts.  I've had them on three different bikes now and loved them on every one.  Never had any fitment problems or anything else.  I think they are the best if you want true duals, but that is just my opinion.....like you say.  John

I got them on mine.  Same bike, Anniversary FLHTCUSE3.  I love the sound and they work great.  I have the bike in for service now, I was getting a lot of poping out the left side, but I don't think it had anything to do with exhaust, but rather the motor.

Enjoy

One more question if you don't mind?  Where did you get your Rineharts from and what was the cost?  Thanks again.

And one more question guys - if you fit Duals what happens about the sensor on the right side exhaust pipe?  :coolblue:

Billy,

Exhaust is a personal preference, Adding true duals will help with the heat issues on the right side of the bike. As stated you like your Pythons, You can use tour mufflers with V&H true dual headpipes or Rush's true dual headpipes since the will work with the slip on's. Rinehart true dual's have a stepped header system and their inlet is 2" so you must use the complete system. Ok let's move on.... What i have found first hand experience is that the Rinehart true dual's are not for every rider ??? Meaning alot of riders say they experience a low rpm dip with the true duals.. Yes there is areason why Mo Co uses the cross over on the rear cylinder and that balances the exhaust for low rpm torque. What type of rider are you ?? If you like to ride your scoot keeping the R's up 2800 and higher at low speed, with a proper tune the Rinehart's perform excellent, With their stepped header system you have to keep the R's up for the exhaust to flow, Plus you have less stress on the lower end with R's up, These stroker motors yield better with rpm.
With a good tuner you should not have any popping on decel, The tuner should be able to dial er in. So, What type of rider are you?
If ride conservative and have a tendacy or like to keep the R's at a lower level Then the Rineharts would not be a Rec. on my end. Stay with your stock cross over and your Python's and get a good tune. If you keep the R's up then the Rineharts and a good tune will make your scoot come alive quiet well.

Thanks for a very nice and thorough reply, you seem to know a lot about the subject and I appreceiate your comments.  I ride a lot (over the rode) type riding, in fact I just returned from the Harley bash in Milwaukee then over to Dayton, OH to see the Wright-Patterson Museum then home (to Paris, Texas) a little over 3500 miles on the trip.  I have over 9,000 on the bike and it is only 7 months old.  How about you?  What type rider are you?  Thanks again.

Hey Billy,

Here's another .02$.  Agree w/ Mr. D.  Not only is exhaust a personal preference but the whole system is what really matters.  Here's my experience:  Just sold my '04 RG which was as close as I could come to a SE bike.  103" Crate motor from HD (no kit/rebuild). Ordered / Built by NYHD.  New York installed 257 Screamin' Eagle cams with SE heads, pistons & rockers and a high flow kit.  Not sure about the TB.  The Rinehart True Dual Exhaust sounds and looks great!  It was loud.  Great torque (dyno'd at 110 ft. lbs.) and hp (105).  No flat spots and always started first time.  Rode hard and cruised... did not matter.  No popping which I understand means you're propable running too lean (though I'm not sure why).  Bottom line:  I'd give the Rineharts two thumbs up but the system and tune are important.
