I think I will keep this one for a while! Just ordered the HW 4 channel amp, 4 speakers and the speaker leg fairing kit. I'm going to turn the rear speaker area into a storage area for Annette. This way she can keep her sunglasses and lip stuff and what not in there. Are you aware of anyone who has done that?

When are you getting yours, should be here soon right?

Yes and No. Instead of feeling the heat on the thigh area I now feel it on the back of my right calf...sometimes. Nop pipe on the left for my wife to melt her shoe on. Pipe on the right is diverted away from her right leg also. It is MUCH improved in my opinion.

It is still very hot the first few hundred miles as is any brand new engine. I rode her 60 miles home thru the forest today and it was the best yet! I really like the wing vents. They are very useful now compared to the HD type I bought for my old Smurf. You can really feel the difference between open and closed. Sometimes, depending on which way the wind is moving across the bike when I'm riding, I will close the right side, open the left to a point where it will move across the engine and move the heat right away.

Rob,

Congrats on the new ride.  Didn't you spend a ton of time (and $$) on your smurf?  Did you trade her in?  Just curious.  Was the reason for the trade more confidence in the 09 110 engine, the king tour pak, ABS?  Just wondering.

Thanks Dawg. (Sorry for the Hi-Jack West Texas!! I just like this bike!) Yes Dawg I put a lot of time and money in the Smurf, just as I do with every other bike!!

I rode a friends 08 and loved the way it handled. I like the wider rear tire and fender. The brakes are much nicer. The fly by wire is real nice. Smooth steady acceleration. It can go down to 15-1800 rpm's and when you twist it it just smoothly climbs out without all that clanging or having to downshift. It shifts a lot smoother too. When you get on this bike you just want to ride, stock seat and all. I SOOOOOOOOO want to get the monster ovals from Vance and Hines and put on it but I set a goal for 5000 miles before I make that adjustment. That way if it changes the way the bike runs at all, which it shouldn't because the cats are not in the stock mufflers, I will be able to notice it right away.

The seat is okay for now. Time will tell. It is not as thick as the 08 stock seat so it will probably need replacing down the road.

I am really going to try hard to go slowly on all (if any) performance mods. I think we sometimes jump the gun on that stuff and don't give the bike time to "settle in". Ain't these mufflers sweet? Come on 5000!
