What kind of bike are you riding?

I have 10K on a Dunlop (have a 04 SEEG) and was told that I could probably get another 2000 - 2500 miles out of it. About 6K of those miles have been all higway miles (trip to Sturgis last year, and trip to Laconia this year). I have been told that Dunlops are supposed to last longer.

As for a wider tire, I asked when I had service done this week about getting a wider tire on my bike, and was told that it had a 140MM (actually a 142MM) on it already and Service Department didn't recommend getting anything wider. There have been threads earlier discussing the wideness of the stock tires, and I believe it was determined that 140MM was stock on the 04 SEEG.

Hopes this helps [smiley=beerchug.gif].

Here's the best tire I've tried and the place to get 'em.

This is probably worth a poll just to easily see what everyone might be using.  The poll will of course tally numbers but it'll be just as interesting simply to see what optional manufacturers people are taking advantage of.  So if your tire isn't listed let me know and I'll put it in the poll.

I'm on my third set of tires,
1st: dunlop/harley no problems 9500 miles
2nd: metzeler 880 premature cupping on front tire 9500 miles
3rd: dunlop/harley 500 miles
be aware of tire load ratings if your on an electric glide or road king
also the cupping that occurred on the metzelers was my second experience with this issue
however I did like them better in the rain (i'm talkin' about after putting a couple thousand miles on them the dunlops were slippery. [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

DJW is correct.  HD brand name tires are Dunlop.

Yes DJ they are.  But I put it up there the way I did specifying HD "Brand name" just so folks could specify if they bought the Dunlop at the dealership with the HD name on it or bought a straight up Dunlop tire someplace else.

The only difference I've found in the HD Dunlops and the straight-up Dunlops is that the Harley ones have those little ribs on the side walls that make 'um hard to clean.      [smiley=furious.gif] spyder

I've got a question, and probably a dumb one at that. I've read all the threads about Dunlop vs. Metzler vs. ......
I've got a 2002 FLHRSEI, and a 2003 FLHTCI that has been lowered to be just like the Road King.
1. can I run a 140 Metz [rear] on both bikes without much modification? Blackwall?
2. can I run a 140 Metz on the FRONT? I've never seen this asked.
      Thanks

I tried lots of different tires on my last heavyweight cruiser. The OEM lasted the longest. The Avon venom handled the best ( softer compound ) but didnt last long. I switched to the Metzler ME 880s and got the best of both worlds. Tires that helped the bike handle better and lasted longer.

I've run Metzeler 880's and loved them , running Avon AM 41 Venoms now and they are very similar, handle the wet better , which is contrary to what I'd heard. Both are great , and vastly superior to the dunlops

I just dropped my bike off last night at a new to me HD shop to get some warranty issues taken care of and my rear tire was completely worn out.  I have 9000 miles on the bike.  Now the front tire had also just developed a slow leak, they are looking at it, I sure hope I don't have to buy a new front tire too. Since it is so close to 10000 they are doing the 10000 service too, so it is going to be expensive enough ----- since all I originally made the appointment for was for warranty things.

replace the heated grips ----- third set
adjust or replace the gas sensor ------ third attempt
replace the turn signal housing and lens cap

I had to do one of those Candy.  Was allowing moisture to get between the stem and the housing letting it get wet inside.  Decided against letting the shop hack on it though.  Just took it a part and took the handy dandy Dremel to the housing to smooth out an area that wasn't as smooth as it should have been.  Then she seemed to seal up much better.  Hope so anyway.

Good luck on the work with the new shop.  One question though.  Since your heated grips are wired in a way contra-indicated by the "factory instructions" are they giving you any grief or making you pay the labor part of the job?
