Start/Kickback Problem
« on: September 16, 2008, 05:26:47 PM »

I have an 08 SEUC that just had the heads replaced on the upgrade. Prior to the new heads I had a start/kickback
problem once in awhile where I got the starter grinding and puking out of the intake. Now with the new heads I get this situation almost every start and it sounds terrible. Has anyone else had this problem and if you have what have you done to stop it. And no changing the motor is not what I want to hear. When I had the new heads installed HD rebuilt my starter ring because of the previous start problems. I am going back to the shop this Friday and they are going to try and troubleshhoot this issue.

Can they be replaced in the new heads? or should I ask for new heads again?

yes, they screw in like spark plugs.  New design ACRs require  special socket because of the plastic body and harness.
Many members have experienced ACR harnes meltdown after havng head gaskets changed due to improper routing of the arness and the heat of these beasts.

Umm, the problem is part of the "Product Improvement Campaign" was to install new ACRs that are supposed to fix that so they don't keep melting.  If yours went that fast it may indicate more of an issue.  Probably just that the MoCo really didn't fix the ACRs but, well, make sure they check the wiring harness to the ACRs as well.

If it is the ACRs bet it has something to do with installation.  If you're running a SERT when loading the map there is an option to enable/disable the ACRs.  Did they perhaps install a sert or tune the bike as part of your 'upgrade.'  Just a thought.

I have had a SERT on it since 1000 miles and I have had this problem all along. It just seems now since I had the heads done that it is more prevalent. They did not do a dyno after the new head installation.
