From excited to totalled bummed out in less than a week!
« on: September 17, 2008, 11:29:41 AM »

So I just got off the phone with me dealer, and apparently the guy with his name on the December O/B delivery still wants it (not surprising).  Then he tells me that the January delivery he promised me might not be the O/B model, it could be any of the colors.  Needless to say I was shocked, I thought they ordered the colors they wanted (apparently that ain't the case with the CVO's).  Then he tells me the trade-in he offered on my '07 Street Glide ($16,500, but he told me last week he thought he could even swing $17k) was only good through year-end, and we'd have to revisit the NADA come January if the new bike comes in then.

I'm totally bummed out now.  I was getting a great trade-in on my current ride (it's actually worth $17,800 towards the new bike with the sales tax kicker), he was only charging my MSRP, no freight or prep on the new one, but now he can't even confirm that another O/B is going to be available to him.  I won't know more until mid-late October. :'(

I'd be bummed too Raaz. I'm guessing that you've called around Cleveburg and it's no go on the Orange anywhere. Several posts scattered about here somewhere have mentioned seeing them for sale at MSRP but you still gotta deal w/ the trade. Did you ever sign a contract? Who's the dealer? S/E H. D.?

Yeah, SE HD is my dealer.  We didn't write up an order, he wrote it all out on his business card.  I could look at another model ('09 Street Glide), but that really isn't the bike I want, and I suspect he came up on the trade because the dollars are so much higher on the CVO.  By the way, he also mentioned that he has probably a hundred customers calling about the CVO Ultra's, and he has all of the already spoken for.

He's a solid guy, so I believe him when he tells me that.  I guess I misunderstood what he was telling me about the January delivery.  I took it for granted that I could get orange.

Maybe the extra time will allow you to sell your bike instead of trading it in.  Street Glides are popular and always seem to move realtively quickly. Can't hurt to try.

Raaze09,

Sierramadre is right.  You'll do better ($$) if you sell the Street Glide yourself.  Street Glides are the most popular touring model now.  You can post it for free on Craigslist, with pics.  Even Cycletrader is only about $50.  The only downside is you may not have perfect timing.  I sold an 04 RG and am awaiting a SERG.  Luckily, I have a second bike but I miss the touring model.  Good luck either way....

When prompted, dealers can submit colors on bikes they are supposed to get for the next quarter.  This does not mean they will get them especially on CZVO's.  I was in the same predicament with the Silver SERG.  1 dealer requested a silver for 2nd qtr but HD came back and said that the dealer is not getting any SERG's 2nd qtr.  My current dealer is not getting any more silver ones.  He is gettin 3 yellows and an orange one in 4th qtr.

Would not doubt sblair but might doubt the dealer.  In So. Cal., our largest dealer is only set to get SERG's the entire 4th Q.  (So they say).  So, four at one dealer seems a lot unless they are quite the heavyweight.  Look on the web.  I've seen some dealers advertising SERG's on Cycletrader.  You never know when you might pick one up.  I just took a look at ebay motors.  None listed and you can see the market is flat.

Raaze09 just spoke to James at Cleveland HD Sales Co. aka. Schmidty's on Lorain 216-252-3111 and he has a orange & black available and coming in in November and selling at msrp. Hope that helps I'm a painter and have been dealing with them for several years and they have always been fair and professional. Nothing against SouthEast because I deal with them as well but Schmidty's is a smaller dealer and seems to have a little more of that mom and pop personal touch in dealing with there customers. The sales guy James I spoke to I don't know personaly, I mainly deal with Dan and Rick in service so if James is a doush salesman sorry. LOL just being honest!!!

StrahDawg, I just got off the phone with James, and I'm heading out there with my scoot to see what kind of trade-in we'd be talking.  They charge MSRP plus freight and prep, SE was without freight and prep, so they're already $800 higher than SE.  If he can do the same trade I may go for it, but if it's going to be $1500-2000 more then I may roll the dice and hope SE gets another B/O in January-March shipments.

Thanks for calling! I'll post an update after I get back from Schmitty's.

Well, Schmitty's wants an additional $1800 for the bike.  They only offered me $15,700 on my trade, and with the freight and prep and the tax difference it works out to around $1800.  I'm going to talk to my dealer again tomorrow to feel him out on how confident he is he'll get at least one more O/B in the phase III deliveries, and if he's willing to commit on paper to the trade-in he offered.

FWIW, the guy at Schmitty's was pretty confident they'll be offering an 2010 FLRTSE... (but DAMN, I like that O/B!)
