Rocket Fuel
« on: July 16, 2005, 01:31:06 AM »

I was out in Dodge City, Kansas yesterday and was talking to a tech about my bike's pinging when hot. He said that several customers were using an octane booster called Rocket Fuel. It comes in little pre-measured liquid packets and costs about $1.25 each. One packet goes in one tank of fuel.
I bought 10 of the little packets and gave it a try.
 Works great, stopped the pinging.
Has anybody else tried this stuff?

Seen it on the counter at Denney's in Spfld for years.  Seen it other places too.  Never used it though.  Fortunately my maps haven't pinged and I was (barely) smart enough to work on carburetors.

Thought you'd tweaked your RT awhile back and made that problem better?

Yeah, I tweaked the RT some and it was better, but I was working it pretty hard with a full load in some smokin' temps this week.
I think that my 35 -36 mpg on this trip was a result of some of my "tweaks". I was putting in about 4.9 gallons every 175 miles.
I need to get this thing on the dyno and get it tuned properly. For now I went back to the stage 1 map and just added accel enrichment.

I was actually real pleased with how well the Stage I map works on the red bike.  It was the only thing there for about three weeks awhile bike waiting for DynoJet to send me a new PC.  The PC and John Golden's tuning definitely smoothed out the power band, added a little bit, and brought it in a bit earlier.  But the Stage I map by itself still had the bike doing decently.  In fact that day you rode it it was just the Stage I map.  The PC was off of the bike then.
