Road Glide Windshield Wide Chrome Trim--Chrome I Don't Like
« on: September 18, 2008, 02:51:00 AM »

Never thought I'd meet a piece of chrome I didn't like.  Ok, that's not completely true.  Even I have limits to keep from getting gawdy.  But chrome does make my special places all warm and tingly.  So was surprised didn't care for this.

Maybe the back of my mind had thought it would be this way already.  Had the trim here for months and only installed a half hour ago.  Immediately liked the bike better wihout it than with it.  Just can't cover up her redness.  It's a sin.

So took it right back off.

On other colored bikes I've seen this piece and liked it a lot.  Just couldn't do it on this one.  Check the for sale section.  There'll be a bargain.

With the trim (sorry for the crappy light in the garage, not adequate for photographs).

Yeah, I know.  I'm going to leave it off.  But didn't hate it on there either.  Originally got it because I'd liked it so well on a silver bike and on a black and charcoal SERG.  It looks good on Chip's blue bike too.  I just couldn't hide the red.

Part of the issue is actually something that didn't show up well in the installed photo.  The windshield has a contoured black band  along it's base.  It has a shape that flows nicely with the inner fairing behind it.  The trim covers part of it so the black band seems to dive and escape coming and going for no reason.  Made for an odd combination of parts.  The dark band on the windshield against the dark red on the fairing work well.  The trim was ok.  But it wasn't great.

Since I knew it'd bug me took it back off before it was installed long enough to leave any kind of impression in the paint.  Don't know if it actually would have.  But it might.  Then I'd be stuck with it and not having the option would bug me even more.

Wow, you're a patient man.  Usually when I buy a piece of bling it's on the bike the second I get home.   ;D

TwoLane Rider,

Have to agree that piece is too much.  Not modern looking  / sleek enough for the SERG 1, 2 or 3.  Especially not with the Klock Werks windshields.  I've looked for the black piece Mike refers to.  No luck.  Anyone?  There must be something out there.

Mike, did you use the rubber gasket / trim piece with the KW?  Thanks!

Hadn't thought about it before you mentioned but, yes, absolutely agree.  Would not be a good piece with the KlockWerks shield.  Not a good combination at all.

You're right. It makes the H-D look somewhat "Goldwingish". I had the same experience with the chrome trim pieces to be bolted on the Touring saddlebag lid front. Can't seem to find these in the current catalog anymore, so I am probably not the only one hating them.

Ride safely,

HD makes a new Rumble collection piece for the Ultra, If they make one for the SERG, it might look good.... Hard to get the part numbers for that collection, so far....

I remember those.  Had a set in hand for the red SEEG when it was new.  Held them up against the bike and didn't care for them either.  Someone on the site got a discount then too :drink: .

That one is a little sleeker, a bit more trim.  That part is better.  The skull thing isn't my cup of tea though.
