I'll be pulling for Missouri.  Texas beat OU.  Need a playoff to settle the BCS bowls - BCS deciding Big 12 is dumb.

'nuff said.

The banner was great, BTW!

As an objective outsider, I'd say Saban did the smart thing.  He could have stuck around two more seasons, tops, with the Dolphins and then been fired as a losing NFL coach.  Another college coach that couldn't cut it at the pro level.  Or he could have taken (another) one of the best college coaching jobs in the land and enjoyed great success, which he has.  Might just win a National Title as well.  Good decision on his part.

And Texas did get a raw deal.  They've beaten OU already but that's not good enough for the BCS.  Heck, why don't we just let the coaches, AP writers, and the BCS vote on the entire college football season, week by week, game by game.  Then vote on the conference chanpionships and the bowl games as well.  Take the "Fantasy Football" thing to the next level.  Think of all the money the schools would save in scholarships, travel, and equipment. ::) ::)

The BCS is about nothing if not money.  They've got a monetary reason for hoping OU will play (they seem to have already picked...Tebow + maybe repeat Heisman = great theatre) Florida.  Maybe they're marketing studies show OU to be the more appealing foe, TV viewership wise.  Maybe OU has more living alumni?  There's some $$$ reason, you betcha.

I'm hoping Alabama will beat UF if for no other reason to see the BCS wring their hands and wonder what to do next?  Anything that spoils their plans will be fine with me.

Oklahoma?  I remember Boise State.  The greatest bowl game I've ever seen.

You wouldn't believe how many times CAL has gotten screwed out of the Rose Bowl because of coaches like the one at Texas. I've got no love lost for that guy believe me. But your are correct, if they could Notre Dame would get a shop at the National Championship even with a 1-11 record. Did I mention how sick and tired I am of freakin Notre Dame ?  Yeah I did already, WELL IT'S WORTH ANOTHER MENTION !  Anyway, that's one area where the Prez Elect has his chit together. He's in favor of an 8 team playoff. My only question there, is who would decide who the 8 teams are ? Beyond that GO BAMA !  Maybe we'll see the man in the houndstooth hat make a ghostly appearance on the sidelines.

Saban gets the beyatch smackdown he deserves for being a non-loyal run for the money kind of guy he is...he is up there with Spurrier to me.

It's a business.  Big business.  Teams fire coaches all the time.  They show no loyalty to the individual.  Why shoudn't the individual look out for their interests when they get the chance?  Saban did the right thing for Saban.  He left LSU to take a Miami Dolphin job that turned out to be a much more dysfunctional organization than he bargained for.  Years of bad seasons lay ahead for which he would ultimately be blamed.  Offered the Alabam job, Saban probably realized righ then that there is a God. :)  I'm guessing he more than once kicked himself for leaving Baton Rouge.

About Spurrier, he left Duke to go to Florida and win, win and win some more.  Obviously did the right thing.  Was he disloyal for not staying at Duke?  Of course not.  You think Gator nation is glad he left Duke?  I've never heard one Florida fan blast Spurrier for his disloyalty to Duke.  Or blast Urban Meyer for his disloyalty to the U. of Utah.  Florida has Spurrier to thank for a national title and the program momentum that Urban Meyer is enjoying even now.  He was and is smart.  Personally, I'm no Spurrier fan, myself, but that doesn't keep me from recognizing that he's smart and great football coach.

Outside of Joe Paterno, has any coach been born into one program and stayed there his whole life?  Heck, they've all moved around for one reason or another.  Their choice or some AD's.  Doesn't make them "disloyal".  It makes them professionals in a volatile field of endeavour.

Remember, Notre Dame cut their own deal with one of the TV networks years ago.  The only college to ever do so.  All the rest have conference wide contracts.  They did this deal when they were mighty and powerful.  They were smart enough to know that there would be lean years, even for Notre Dame.  And at that time, the networks couldn't foresee a time when they wouldn't be.  That's why we see them on TV, even when they're not very good.  Again, it's business.

Bryant coached at Union College, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Texas A&M, and U. of Kentucky before Alabama.
Woody Hayes coached at Denison University and Miami of Ohio prior to Ohio State.
Bo Schembechler coached at Presbyterian College, Bowling Green, Northwestern, and Ohio State before Michigan.

Knute Rockne, you got me there.  He went from student to graduate to coach, all at Notre Dame.  Paterno played quarterback at Brown before getting an Assistant Coach job at Penn State.  He's been there ever since.

Elvis, if I can interject here_

When Saban got to the Dolphins, they were a train wreck of a pro football team.  He grossly underestimated the amount of rebuilding to be done and the time it would take, or he was misinformed.  He was obviously a very unhappy guy.  The media and lying story comes from when Saban told them he was not interested in the Alabama job, even when it was known that he had interviewed.  Did he lie?  Yes.  Did it matter?  IMO, no.  His fibs didn't cost the Dolphins anything--they were in complete disarray beforehe got there and still were.  At that level, it's strictly business.  As I said earlier, had he stayed, the Dolphins would have had four bad seasons and he would have been fired.  As it happened, Everybody came out ahead.  Saban went back to where he's best--the premier colege ranks and the Dolphins got Bill Parcels to run the team who then hired Tony Sparono as coach and the Dolphins are now effectively rebuilding.

He stood there and told the Soflo media, he was not interested in going to Alabama, did not talk with Alabama was going to stay the course with Miami, honor his contract, yada, yada, yada and on more than one occasion. He knew what shape the team was in, he stated he was up for the challenge. How did it go when he left lsu, something similar no? I do not recall.

It matters not only for vitrol (where I got the adjectives used in my prod) by the local media down here. It is bad when in Hurricane country, you have talk radio even mentioning the Gators never mind in a positive note to beat Bama simply for what happened at the pro level.  It is riot what some Dolphin fans say, I think burning him in effigy has already happened!  He was not readly recieved down here from the get go and was quite aloof and after the aww shucks era of Wandstadt then having a a 10 million $ bubble built for indoor practice (in SoFlo mind you) that alone became quite a laughing stock.

It amuses me to no end.  It was the Jimmy Johnson era that planted the seeds of ruination with the once proud Dolphins, who are apparently making a pretty good move forward.  Not that is matters to me, a Patriots fan...Just sewing seeds of discontenet with Bama fans knowing the blind loyalty to the Tide...It should be a good game.

Hey...Thanks for the response. As I said, I never got the story and was always curious. Ya know what they say, "Winning isn't everything, but second sucks"  and we all want to win; it's in our nature, just hope that blindness doesn't have us BAMA folks following the Devil straight to hell  ;D Anyway, now I know the rest of the story  ;D..............
