It appears as if he signed the extension and retired on the job!!!!   I'll walk away from my job for $4,000,000, maybe a little less.

Not taking anything away from old Joe, but I think someday down the road, Pete Carroll will be up there with the greats of the college coaching ranks, at or very near the top. Beyond that, unless longevity adds bonus points, you've got to consider Bo Schembeckler, Bobby Bowden, Darrel Royal, Ara Parsegian, Woody Hayes,Bear Bryant and while I don't care for the guy Steve Spurrier.

Throw Barry Alvarez, Barry Switzer, and Tom Osbourne in there and I'd have to agree with your list!   :2vrolijk_21:

I've give you Osbourne even though I'm glad I didn't play my college ball for a prig like him, but Switzer ?  seriously ?

B B
Alvarez I'm sorry to say I've never heard of. I'm sure that makes me look stupid, but I'm nothing if not straight up.

I know, I know, can I say, can I say?  ;D Seroiusly though; Tom Osborn has my utmost respect as a coach. I remember the National Championship game i think in 1986 or 87...Nebraska and Miami. Nebraska scores a touchdown with less than 10 seconds left in the game and behind one point. Osborn coulda kicked the point after and tied (Remember then no overtime) the game and still won the championship but chose to go for the win and attempted the two pointer and failed...Miami wins. What guts to go for the win instead of accepting a tie...My kinda coach...Like The Bear said, "A tie is like kissing your sister".

I don't remember the year, but I remember the game!   :2vrolijk_21:

Not '86.  That's when PSU beat Miami and Vinny Testeverde. Got intercepted quite a few times.  As I recall PSU didn't get any respect that year either. Until they won.

And at one time PSU was known to have a few AAA's coming out too.
Academic All American, to all those Gators out there, but thanks for covering LSU, make Mikey happy and able to pay his bar tab!   :2vrolijk_21:

Don't watch any of the bowl games, haven't in years. Couldn't even tell you played in any of the major bowl games for the past 10 years. College football for me is the reverse of the pros. In college it's about the season. In the pros it's about the playoffs. The 100 year old rivalries etc in college make the regular weekly games far far more exciting to watch than the whole stupid BCS mess. Sorry, just my $0.02 and I know everyone will disagree, but hey, that's me

Could not agree more...  The BCS has ruined the traditions...  I like watching the rivalries and the Wisconsin Badgers (formerly coached by their current Athletic Director - Barry Alveraz) (even though their season is already toast!)

Before long Saban will be in that group. I follow the SEC very closely and the work ethic of that man is absolutely amazing. We are talking 16 to 18 hour days, 7 days a week. Every week he reviews not only tapes (every play) from the previous weekend but also every play on the next team on the schedule from the current year and at least one season back. The guy is a machine and his players not only have total respect for him but they adore him also. Both at LSU and UA the players hated him their first spring, by fall they all loved him, even the former starters that he put on the bench. I'm in awe of him and coming from a Tennessee boy, that says a heck of a lot. I understand LSU hated him for abandoning them but I hear Les hasn't changed one thing from what Saban did there.
As for Alabama this year, they are still a year away. Starting 15 freshmen, they are just getting seasoned properly for next year. :2vrolijk_21:

Make no mistake, if they can beat Alabama this weekend, it will make their season.  Always a good game, no matter the outcome.
