Thanks for the input folks! Interesting, when I count the comments it comes out 4 hard bags, 7 leather. When I look at the poll results it reads 12 hard bags, 4 leather. I guess those who like leather would rather write about it and are technologically challenged with radio buttons.
I did place a call to Alligator Bob and his assistant said he is so busy with seats and isn't doing any saddlebags. After seeing some of his work he would be my #1 choice. Damn the price, I know I would get one heck of a piece of art.
The thing that ticks me off about the hard bags is HD raised the price from $835 to $1399 a month ago and paying that much just turns my crank. Plus, I would have to find an extremely capable gold leaf flame artist to complete the flames on the bags. I'm guessing that would be another $400-$600. I like the high tech look of the hard bags but agree they are not optimized for the shape of the Wide Glide. The tour Pak is a custom application figured out by our buddy Buffy.
I spoke with the fine folks at Boss Bags and when the FXDWG2 came out with the tan saddle, they purchased a lot of matching leather and made 20 sets of the bags. They still have some in stock. I asked about adding some ostrich accents and they said "no can do." I could probably have someone add some red ostrich or other highlighting to those bags.
I did see a set on a DWG2 out in Rapid during bike week and they looked very good! They are bigger than they appear in the photo and look pretty wicked cool. I am still leaning this direction. I would then have someone make me a matching windshield bag and a set of tan bags for the back (duffle and roll bag for the bobtail rack).
If any of you know of someone with the same skills as Alligator Bob, let me know and I will check with them. I am not locked on either of these plans. They are just the two best options so far. Don't want black bags as one of the things I fell in love with on this bike was the tan seat.
Thanks again for the input!
