ST. JUDE RIDES PEORIA TO MEMPHIS
« on: September 21, 2008, 09:57:38 AM »

Just got back from the second annual ST JUDE RIDES PEORIA TO MEMPHIS ride. This fund raising event took 100 motorcycles from Peoria IL to Memphis TN to tour the ST JUDE CHILDRENS RESEARCH HOSPITAL. It was an amazing event and a moving expierience. With 100 bikes and roughly 50 passengers we raised over $194,000 for ST JUDE!!!!!!

You particpated in a ride for a very worthy cause.  Is it something that is done every year?  Your post is the first that I've heard of it.

This was the second annual. Last year they took 50 bikes on the inaugeral run to see how the logistics would play out. Raised over $90,000. This year they took 100 bikes and raised over $194,000. The plan is to try and take more bikes next year but some planning will have to be done. One way was like 485 miles.
Try to get 100 bikes into a gas station every 100 miles! It went very well all things concidered but some logistical changes will need to be made in order to accomodate more bikes.

I cannot express enough the joy in being able to raise money to help St Jude it is a very wonderful and speacial place and hopefully no one here needs them but oh what a relief to know they are there. The smile we put on the faces of some of those kids-Priceless.

Do the riders go out and get folks to pledge so much per mile?  I've participated in this kind of thing before raising money for St. Jude by walking.  I'd do better riding now than walking.

To participate in the ride a $1000 rider and $500 passenger fee is the required minimum. Fundraising letters went out well before the event explaining what we were doing. It was not hard at all to raise enough money.  I thought it would be much more difficult but people were very genrous and again it truly is a great cause.

On the downside it rained cats and dogs from Memphis to St Louis on the way home. Oh well it just made the ride more memorable! I will definatly put a post out next year when this thing gets closer maybe some people will be interested in participating or maybe some people might be interested in donating or whatever the case may be. Everybody ride safe and enjoy the rest of the riding season.
