Don,

I know what you mean about multiple bikes.  raingear, night glasses, gloves, etc.  They always seem to be in the other bike!

Tools.  Balaclava.  Do finally have bike specific spare parts pouches for the few things I want in each.  The rest has been a chore at times.

Over the winter (we get those here) planning to empty both bikes.  Lay it all out on the garage floor.  Create two separate bike sets with storage points as close to the same in both bikes as I can.  Then won't have to deal with my own stupidity quite so much :drink: .

I'd like, as others have done in previous posts, to use this opportunity to draw everyones attention to the fabulous mobile.wunderground site, which provides up to the minute radar images on portable Internet devices. I think this (and other similar sites) are more trustworthy than the "isolated showers" forecasts ...

Ride safely,
Louis

Heading to the Blueridge from up in Canada in June it called for rain every day. Skies were black the day we left but wasn't raining.  Onlt the one rider put his full rain gear on anyway. Became sunny rest of day. Three days in a row , same thing. Black skies, only the one rider put the full suit on then sun rest of the day. Fourth day said rider didn't put on his rain gear first thing. We got soaked 20 minutes into the ride. We never let him take it off for the rest of the trip. THE MUFFMAN

It was a rain repellent!  I like the mobile device.  I've got a Treo and it's pretty handy.

Don just put the rain gear, tools, gloves, spare parts and jackets in the trailer, and always pull the trailer, no matter which bike you take.  ;D

Left here yesterday during a beautiful day during a string of beautiful days.  When I left thought "nah, don't need the rain gear from the Electra Glide" as I rolled the Road Glide out of the garage.

Left here mid to late morning today.  Gorgeous day.  This forecast.  Blue as far as you could see.  Didn't bring the rain gear again.  No way it would be necessary.

Watch your temperature / dew point spread. Anytime it is within a couple of points there is a very good chance of precipitation. If the dew point is higher than the temperature it is raining / snowing.

Don,

You should mention that the strangest part of the ride was not the "isolated" showers that soaked our a$$.  How about the guy trying to thumb a ride by walking down the middle of I-44?  I thought he was just going to jump on your bike with you.  Glad I had the solo seat on mine.   :2vrolijk_21:

Have the same problem with 2 bikes, Don.  Whatever I need is usually in the other bike - tools, glasses, sunscreen, hell everything.

Am not planning to double up on everything - need to figure out how to get stuff from 1 bike to another.

Maybe I could do that before I left on a ride?   :2vrolijk_21:

Naw, that would mean not having stuff where I want it is my fault.  :huepfenlol2:

BTW - yesterday was 30% chance of rain here & we road all day with just a couple of little spitters that barely got the Clearview wet.  Nyah, nyah!!!   ;)

hehehe, I was doing my best not to incriminate other dufii great riding buddies who got caught out in the rain Saturday  :huepfenlol2: .  But, yes, that was a Kodak moment.

There we were buzzing down the Interstate at 70-75 in decent traffic.  The Road Glide was in front with Travis and his wife on thier bikes and an Oregonian we'd met when pulled off to get out of the rain who happened to be heading our way.  That same pull off also saw is visited by two other riders so a half dozen Harley riders all shared conversation and a dry awning for a 45 minutes or an hour.  But I digress...

We're buzzing down the highway and I see traffic starting to back up slightly and catch a view of a guy standing on the side of the road.  From a distance the first assumption is he's flagging traffic to slow down for an accident ahead.

The Oregonian (whose name I don't think we ever knew) does a zoomie right by me as he doesn't get slowed quite as quickly but, hey, as he went by in the right half of the lane we were close enough to check each others buttons.  Special moments like that are always worthwhile.

Turns out the backup wasn't the accident (there was no accident) it was just the guy.  He was standing on the shoulder and randomly walking back and forth out in traffic and reaching out to touch cars.  He wasn't going to hurt a car of course but I was concerned about our train of bikes.

First one by could treat him like a dog rushing up and buzz by in a lane change.  But he might have had a clue by the time the bright yellow Sportster in the rear went by.  Fortunately he didn't try to get intimate with a bike and all was fine.

The guy was definitely altered.  Slow Motion Charlie all relaxed and buzzed.  Bet 103's bike it was heroin or some other strong opiate that had him enjoying the highway so contentedly.  All the bikes cleared safely though.  So it was all good (for us).
