Extended Warranty - Yes or No??
« on: September 22, 2008, 01:38:03 AM »

I'm picking up my new Road Glide this week. This will be only my second new harley, last one was a 97 Fat Boy. I also had two used. I've never had any serious problems with any of my bikes (knock  wood) and I was just wondering what everyone thinks of the extended warranty. Should I get it or no?

My '98 Fat Boy has been bullet-proof with only a fork seal replaced under warranty a month or so after I got it.  I didn't get an extended on it.  My '07 SERKus had frightening noises from the start, and you don't have to read much here to know what 110s are like.  That being said...some of the things that are wrong with it have been deemed "normal" by the MoCo and so would not be a warranty item.  I'm waiting for them to say this upgrade program is as far as they will go.

I think a lot of it depends on what your dealer is like.  If you can't get them to cover things now under the basic it won't change with an extended one.  If he will go to bat for you with the factory then it may be worth it.

YOU DO NOT NEED A DEALER TO ADMINISTER THE ESP! Something to to factor in when considering this. If you have a good indie that administers this plan, you might still want to go with it, like I'm thinking of doing! ;)

YES.I paid close to 30K for my 08 SERK and to extend the warranty out to 7 years unlimited miles $50 deductable cost an additional $1350. That was a no brainer to me. Approx 4% cost for a 30K purchase!

A couple of thoughts. First, you don't have to buy the ESP right away. Imho, drive it for awhile and see how it is. The guys with the 110's, seem this is money in the bank.

In the meantime, shop around. You can find real good deal on the HD ESP. I got something like 20% off.

Yes, it's worth the piece of mind, if anything.  Get the Wheel/Tire road hazard warranty too.  That's the best money you'll spend.  No matter what happens to your tires/wheels, they will be replaced free of charge.   (Tires have to have usable tread life on them though when the damage happened.)  I've had three tires replaced under the warranty, so they've paid for themselves.  I have both the ESP and the Wheel/Tire Warranty on both my SEUC and my Street Glide.  Got the ESP for the Street Glide through Jenni at Tri-County HD for 20% off.  You can get the ESP with no surcharge up to 90 days or 2000 miles after you bought the bike.  After that and up to the end of your factory warranty, there is a $150 surcharge added on.

Yes, I did it, with all the problems some people have had with the 110's, I knew I wanted it before I bought the bike.

Stuff on my bike started crapping out a couple months after the warranty expired... like the radio.

A radio is $1000.... math is pretty easy from there.

I got it on the new bike along with tire plan.  It also helps selling the bike in the future if it has ESP.

Yes.  You may wish to wait until you have ridden the bike awhile to decide.  It is transferable if you sell the bike.

Yes absolutely, with all the problems with the 110 the extended warranty should not even be a discussion item for anyone buying a new CVO
