I'm no expert on this issue but don't you want a higher / longer lift cam for better breathing?  If so, would not that go hand in hand with head work?  Just askin'.  Assuming you're talking about a 110", I'd look at the Screamin' Eagle catalog  http://www.harley-davidson.com/EX/RAC/seagle/en/consentform.asp?separts=2&locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US   and see what HD used with the SE heads.

This is my touring bike, I'm not looking to go faster. she is fast enough!. just looking for reliability ..I am in need of  my 3rd set of tensioners and tired of going into my motor every 35,000 miles. So I am going gear drive, and do not want to pull heads..

So we're talking about an  2001fltrsei2(carbureted) with a 95" motor?  Take a look at page 33 of the SE catalogue(under experience, then racing parts) on line.  HD used either a 203 (mild) or 257 (higher) cam in their Stage 2 kits.  Starting at page 56 of the catalogue, there is a list of cams that will fit and the uses.  That should tell you what you want to know.  Good luck!
