Shifter Pawl, remove and replace. Anybody done this?
« on: September 25, 2008, 03:19:10 PM »

I finally ordered the extended rear shifter from Sik shift, ) i saw them at AZ bikeweek last spring and have decided to give it a try. My stock rear shifter vibrated off some time ago and the shaft/pawl needed replacement before I could put a new one on. So, I got the shaft, looks pretty easy, set screw and run it through. Has anyone on here replaced theres? Anything to look out for? Thanks boys!

Not hard but go buy a manual. The bible will help you through it and it even has pictures!!!!!

Just kidding. Nothing to look out for. Just have the right tools and take your time. Then sit back and DRINK and ADMIRE!!!!!!

The only thing special I do with a splined shaft is to tape the splines before I run them through something like a seal.  Just a little insurance against nicking anything.  I use one wrap of electrical tape.

Yep good idea JerRy. I also put just a little white lube around the edge of the seal to help it slide!!!!!!

Teflon tape also works good on the splines as its thinner than electrical tape. The only thing you have to watch out for is the pawl spring adjustment it will cover it in the manual but I just make sure it's centered.
