:-X Well I did. And had the dealer (stop laughin' at me) put it together and install the lock kit. The whole unit is tweaked out of shape and when the lid closes it rubs against the lower edge and is wearing the leather off . The dealer didn't do the job right. I still can't get the dealer to fix it, AND they charged me 4.5 hours labor to do it. Now the "screw rivets" are beginning to strip out and come apart. Service writer promised to order new kit to replace the rivets. I get real busy during the summer (wildland fire fighter) and didn't get the chance to ask about the rivet kit until I did the 0906 program (don't ask, yet another looong sad tale) I never even knew if they had received the rivet kit. They did receive it, but after the service I received on the 0906 EIP (ie deep tool mark on the rear valve cover, scratched paint on gas tank, bike running poorly)  I'm not sure I wanna let 'em even try and repair the trunk. Just wanted to ask an experienced member here if it is at all possible to fix this myself? If I get the river kit, and put the lock kit in correctly, is it even possible to repair the small holes in the leather outer cover? 'Cause ya know I'm gonna have to tweak and reposition the lock frame inside to get this unit to work correctly whcih means I'm gonna have to reposition the rivets and punch new holes. Any advice would be appreciated.

And like a few other members here, when I walk in the dealership service writers look away, walk into the shop, or generally find somewhere else to be. So I have been very vocal, yet polite, about these problems.

I would contact Harleys customer service,  and complain about the dealer.

never know,,  squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I did my own latch and lock setup,  and am not having any problems.  keep in mind these are not hard.  they do twist and bend being only flexible plastic and leather.  you could try tweaking it a little yourself.

but,,, the dealer should take responsibility for the work they performed. and I'd hound them till they fixed it the right way.  talk to the owner personally.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'm gonna take a deep breath and try the dealer one more time.  :nixweiss:

I've got one and have the same kind of story. Lock kit will work but not like you would expect. Dealer told me the hinge was on backwards from the factory and the MotoCo wouldn't repair or replace. Hope you get your issue resolved.               :bananarock:

And I thought I was the only person that got this treatment. They don't like me very much either, I guess because I seem to know more about these bikes than they do ! :coolblue:

I just had the Dealer refund me entirely for my leather tour pak,  It buckled on the left side while driving with a passenger, I am not going to get overly dramatic about it, but the potential for a serious accident was there.  Spend the extra money and go with the king tour pak, I found a great one on eBay, with all the docking racks for $700.
