Motor mount question
« on: September 26, 2008, 08:48:06 AM »

I've been changing the lower motor mount every year and just now changed it again this(2x) year. My question is does anyone make a better  more durable mount. I ride hard and so I expect parts to wear sooner,  but this is a pain in the a**. thanks Derek

What bike are we talking about Derek?  The Touring models have a new urethane front mount starting mid 2006 that is much more durable than the old rubber version.  The aftermarket also sells good replacements, such as the Velva-Ride urethane mount.

If your mounts are actually failing in one year, I would suspect your source has a batch of the old defective rubber parts in inventory.

Jerry,  My 03 RK is the bike in question.  Do you have any input on the velva-ride stuff.  My bike has quite a bit of torque but so does most bikes on this site.  The mounts actually rip and the lube is everywhere. The shop says that the mounts are not made to do wheelies or hard aggressive  riding  ???  but I also find it hard to believe I am the only one who rides like this. Thanks for the help  Derek

:huepfenlol2:  There's a difference between "aggressive" riding and wheelies/stoppies.  Anyone regularly doing wheelies on a touring bike just needs to replace whatever breaks and keep on smiling.  It's part of your program.

Don I thought just owning a Harley meant replacing whatever breaks and keep smiling :2vrolijk_21:

Too true Brian.  Either replacing or at least hanging it on with duct tape.  Whatever it takes to get a guy home :2vrolijk_21: .

Thanks for the insight,  your right if my biggest problem with my bike is the motor mount I guess I am doing allright.  No linear movement or seepage and I haven't had a oil leak since I made the 113..  oh-oh did I just put a curse on myself nevermind about that stuff I said  Derek

Something is not right if you are having to replace it so frequently....

There are lots of posts here on good substitutes, I have the velva.

I as well broke 2 mounts this year with my new 117 motor. My fault as it sounds like it ride like you..haha
I have the velva mount and love it so far. A touch of increased vibration, but its either going away or i am getting used to it.

First motor mount failed.........looked like a dog had chewed on it.......after 3K.  Now at 32K and change, it looks like a donut.  Replacing it.

i was told harley updated the mounts the dealer i use to go to could not even tell it was broken twice i paid to them check it and told them what was wrong ,then i got tired of the bam bam every time i hit a bump, got pissed and took it off my self i was cracked then took it to the dealer and made them pay for the parts ,keep in mind at the time it was a stock tc-88 with no mods i almost sold the bike it was so bad i will deal with replacing it over more vibration also i do not have the horse power most of the guys on here have i do ride like most of you and if i could i would wheelie it but lack of hp and a spine that is screwed together stops me every time would be nice to hit second and lift it up just a little, tires are expensive so i do not roast that either just do the rolling ones i did brake the belt as well 3500 miles again hd paid for the parts i did my own work they did offer to do the labor but i had it stripped  down the day it broke, i would get the harley mount and deal with it twice a year mad brad
