Shocks died an early death
« on: September 26, 2008, 11:12:49 PM »

My 2003 SERK has about 8500 miles and the air shocks just aren't doing their job. The bike had a lowering kit installed and with 30 PSI in the shocks we bottom out when 2 up. Even riding single, I hit bottom on severe bumps. We are headed to Hot Springs, Eureka Springs area on Monday so just removed the lowering kit for this trip. That has been a temporary solution. Have any of you experienced shock failure at this low mileage? They hold air but don't provide the cushion. I am also asking if you have had success with aftermarket shocks or best to stick with Harley?

Thanks,
Plasmaman

to many options to stay with stock shocks........

orig shocks are poor at best.........consider the failing of the stock shocks a blessing

I have the Arnott shock system and like them

but there are Progressive and legends avail

Go with the Progressives and set them up as you like them. Yank off all the air lines and fittings, much cleaner look and so much better a ride.  :2vrolijk_21:

I like my Legend Air Suspension a lot on my 07 SEUC...  If I didn't run the adjustable height shocks, I'd mount a set of Bitubo's.   :2vrolijk_21:   To each his own, but I ran a set of Progressive 440's on my 01 SERG and did not care for the ride at all.  To harsh for me, expecially 2 up...    :nixweiss:

I had an air line rub against the tire and make a pin hole in it. I had to replace the lines and once the money tree starts growing again I'm going aftermarket.

300mm (12") is lowered and 330mm (13") is standard height on FLH/T's. ;)

Since I have the same bike you do ( except red ) and it is lowered from the factory I guess the 300mm is the one you used and the one I need too. Right. Do you like the ride with yours? How is it different?

Actually, I used the 330's and raised the front with the AK-20's as well. Back to standard height. I'm 5-9 and am plenty flatfooted at a stop. These bikes don't need to be lowered. At least up to '08 anyway. They lower it for looks, not handling! ;)

I will most likely stay with the height from the factory but how is the ride different from stock with these new stocks?
