front brake light
« on: September 29, 2008, 07:30:13 PM »

When I apply the front brake on my fat boy the brake light does not go on, but when I apply the rear brake the light does work.

Where is the brake light switch located ? I'm guessing in the brake handle assembly somewhere, any one ever change one ? how hard is it to change ?

Is there another possible problem besides a faulty switch that some one has run across for the same problem?

Thx for any help

I have seen the right bar switches not make a good connection.

The switch is in the right handlebar switch housing. It is broken sometimes when installing the cover and not using a shim between the lever and the end of the switch.

The break light switch is located behind the front break lever. have you replaced the levers? If so you could have broken the switch or the wire has come disconnected.

I haven't replaced the levers or opened the switch housings in years, just happened out of the blue.

Might wanna leave it that way. Run bikes that way for years. When ya slow down for the Man, he won't see you applying the brakes if ya only use the front, especially at night! ;)

Its not too big a job to replace the switch and if you care about the poor buggers riding behind you you'll sort it before your next ride with others, more so if you ride with a fast group. Down here the man can put your scoot off the road for things like a brake light switch fault :soapbox:
