Rush baffles insulation material
« on: September 30, 2008, 11:59:22 PM »

I bought Rush slip ons that came with 2 inch baffles for my SE softail springer. I bought 2.25 inch Rush baffles to replace the 2 inch baffles inside the slip ons. When I took the 2 inch ones out there is an insulation type material wrapped around the baffles and the new 2.25 inch baffles have the same insulation material so I left it on and installed them. Can anyone tell me the purpose of this material and what would happen if I took it off. Any difference in sound or performance?

It is sound deadening material, more then likely fiberglass. If you remove it the exhaust sound will increase and also help out the exhaust flow. Not a bad thing but you will have louder exhaust. I don't know what your preference in exhaust sound level is, but if you want louder exhaust remove the fiberglass.

Has anyone with the fulsac baffles and cc removed taken out the inusulation material.  If so did it help with the sound.  I'm drilling my cat out today so that will help, but after riding in the biker for baby ride this weekend realized how unharley this 09 serg sounded.  Its much better with the fulsacs then stock but still a long way from good low rumble sound.  I'm hoping after the cat removal it will be much better I was hoping not to have to spend another 4-5 hundered on slip ons.  Especially since the oem looks pretty good.

I installed the FullSac baffles with the stock insulation left in (it was a little damaged and brittle and was coming out). However, I have some Ceramic blanket material (2600 degree temp range) that should be in this week that I will wrap the baffles in. I like the baffles, I just want to quiet them down a little more.

I'll take pictures and post them here...also my opinion on how quiet they get.
