Being that you are from Canada, is it possible that 25000 is kilometers? Or maybe a typo? 200 miles a day seems like a lot. Not doubting you, just asking.

This is about what I expected.

Being from the great white north I'd say he meant KM's, it's been so long I don't even think miles anymore.

Even so that's nothing to sneeze it.  Close to 16,000 miles only several months.  Must be what you guys do during the summer when you know winter sucks hard.

Refreshing to see someone understand and agree! And yeap Dave, it's all about the almighty $$$ and return to shareholders. They don't really GAS about customers. We're a necessary evil to the business. Under engineer and test it, then let it get shaken out in the field by customers. Then fix to a minimum under w.....ty! So when they push it too far, they must make as minor improvement as they can get away with. But you'll never see them build with quality, reliability and longevity as the focus, ever again! That's Corporate American manufacturing in this era! Not just HD, most major American manufacturers do it the same way. Job shopping parts to cheap 3rd world nations, minimum tolerance junk built to spec by the lowest bidder, just barely good enough engineering, etc! Damn shame! I know I'd pay for known superior quality and engineering! And I do!!! Sounds like you would too! ;)

And those same people put 150 to 1,000 (soft)  miles a year on these bikes, so problems either never show up for 10 years, or at all.
Those of us that do put miles on, hard or otherwise are the ones finding out all there short comings.   sucks to be us  Howie >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I don't see it as venting, unfortunately, just stating facts!!! That's what sucks about it! When all they have to do is just charge a little bit more, and get it right!!! We'll gladly pay, instead of putting up with this BS! ;)

Yea; the best I ever did was 23000 km (14000 mi), but that was a full season (May - Oct). And you're right - winter sucks, but we usually trailer some place warm for a week or two.

Mine will be 2 years old April 2009, and it has 26,000 mi.  Headgasket started leaking at 5,000, was replaced at 10,000.  No problems since.  Didn't miss a lick on the Sturgis trip.

'08 FLHTCUSE3 - 13 months and 23000 miles since delivery.  The ACRs went bad and were replaced under the "Product Improvement Campaign."  No other engine issues.  Lot's of non engine bike issues.  Heated Grips, Throttle Sticking, Radio, etc.

Ride Safe,

Ding, Ding, Ding... I think we have a winner.
38K on an original 110".
The purpose of this thread was to compare what is actually on the road as to what the MoCo did in tests. I would assume that the MoCo ran a Dyno test on the engine for 20k - 30k simulated miles. Had they done it any longer, I wonder if the problems that we are all experiencing would have surfaced?

No way they tested these 110's!!! I believe they tested the 96's, made them to accept barrels to make 103's, and that the 110's were an afterthought for CVO's!!! If these were tested, they never would have hit the streets this way. They would have seen a substantial amount of early failures as many here have in '07! Don't be so damn naive AJ!!! ;)

Not sure what HD's test standards are as to mileage.  :nixweiss:  If they are using computer simulators or dyno tests plus 20k-30k on the road actual miles - even that ain't worth jackchit.  Anything less than 75-100k is bullchit.Does not appear they tested these 110's for even half that mileage.  Be a good question to ask one of these days when I get the chance.

Howie, they would have had to test them for EPA at a minimum. I too doubt that they did any "on the road" testing. Had they taken one bike for a cross country ride, a lot of the issues may have appeared.

You don't really believe that they actually test an engine in a bike for 20K-30K miles? That was the point of this question. Here we are two years after the first engine was sold to the public and we are just now hitting the 30k mark. The only way to accomplish that in  a short period of time would be on a Dyno.
