You don't really believe that they actually test an engine in a bike for 20K-30K miles? That was the point of this question. Here we are two years after the first engine was sold to the public and we are just now hitting the 30k mark. The only way to accomplish that in  a short period of time would be on a Dyno.

I am old fashioned AJ.  Dyno testing is not real road time.  Before they dump release an engine to the public, it should be road tested over 1-2 years & 75-100k is the point these should be tested to since they are typical mileages where stuff starts failing in other HD motors, big time.  5 days a week at 300 or so miles per day real road plus some track time/track miles would yield 75k miles (or more) in 250 days.  One year without weekend riding = 250 days.

Unless they start & stop the bike, change gears, incline/declines, and do a TRUE road test simulation (?), dyno miles won't equal the engine wear & tear of "load" miles.  Less than that & engine failures are poorly predicted - like this 110 obviously.

It appears WE are the test riders for the 15k & up stuff on this 110.  That sucks.

Howie,

The so called "heated grips" work after they have been replaced.  Then they fail when the weather is cold & you might need a heated grip.  It appears they were designed to work immediately after installation for a few minutes & then stop working.  Mine shocked my left thumb the last time they failed - when they were turned off even.  That was a nice zap "touch".

I do not know anyone with an 07 whose grips did not fail at least once.

 ;)

You're preaching to the choir here. I'm not disagreeing with your statement at all. The reason why I asked the question was to find out how many miles people actually had on their engines as compared to the "testing" that the MoCo obviously had done. In the real world, it is not economically practical to test an engine for 50k miles. The rush to production far exceeds the demand for testing. I'm not saying it's right, just a fact of life. That's why I was curious as to how many miles most engines had on them.

My post above was not directed at you - I was venting frustration at the MoCo on this sorry 110 episode.  It may not be economically practical to road test a motor for 50k miles, but it makes more sense than any dyno test under lab conditions.  End of this rant & on to the next......

On the other hand, I would prefer a simulated payment for the CVO 110 engine bikes than an actual payment program.  Simulated payments could give the MoCo & their credit company the "feel" of getting a check & cashing it, without actually having to go to the trouble of depositing real hard cash derived from bank checks.  I might look into a dyno check program that simulates payments for future CVO owners.  The checks would not be cleared or verfied - they would be placed in a "Check Dyno" box for 6 hours at a MoCo location & if they did not implode, start bouncing up & down on their own, or fly away, they would automatically be considered as "good" even though funds might not be available at whatever bank they are written on. This would save a lot of time & be much more efficient for the MoCo than actually cashing the check & handling money, IMHO.

If these checks later fail, in a couple of years, we send the MoCo a book about checks & a Check Upgrade letter.  Seems fair.   :nixweiss:

Mine goes in tomorrow to replace the heated grips. I have the extended warranty & they will have to replace them every year if they fail. THE MUFFMAN

You look at this the same way I do, Muffman.  I just had mine replaced (design appeared to be a little different than the older version but not sure).  They will keep replacing them over & over unless they find a version that does not fail.  Wonder if they ever considered Heat Demons?

That's me.  Not in for anything but a tire and routine maintenance.  I have 10,500 miles.  Going in next month for 10k service, 0905 safety upgrade and a 5 month nap.

I do not even possess the lack of sense today to look at my so called IRA portfolio of doom & gloom.  It's all your fault for giving me that Dyno Check idea........

First leak detected at 4700 miles.  Did the gasket thing.  Lasted until 7300 miles before it leaked again.  Did the gasket thing again.  That lasted all of 400 miles.  At 7700 miles they replaced the jugs, pistons and gaskets. The bike spent 10 weeks in the shop in 2007.  Did the 905 " product improvement program" at 17500 miles in September 08.  Never had any problem with ACR's but got new ones with the "pip".

Best thing I did was have the new rocker boxes put on during the "pip".  No more noise.  Super.

Today it has 18400 miles on it.  Really no leakage since 7700 miles.  Really no problems of any kind since 7700 miles.
