installed chrome switch caps yesterday! what a pita!
« on: October 05, 2008, 10:00:35 AM »

I installed the chrome switch caps yesterday afternoon.
I've only had them since last christmas!!  LOL

I held off installing them because I knew that they were a pain in the a$$ to do. (I installed them on my '06 Deuce)

but I was motivated yesterday and finally did it!
they look great and went on as I expected...... :pepper:

I still have the Chrome ones I bought for my 2004 SEEG (at the time, I bought the Ultra set and the Softail set)...I installed them on the SED and after that six hour experience, I never did install them.  When I got the 2006 CUSE, I planned to install them ...again, never did...now I have the 2008 CUSE....and wonder if I will try to install them....

Had mine installed by the dealer when I changed out handlebars. From your experience, sounds like I did the right thing. Love the way they look and it adds horsepower!

Are the chrome caps made of metal?

Waiting since Christmas was just good insight.  Took me two sets last January as I managed to crack two of the six caps... couldn't even get a pity  :( discount from my stealer on the second set.  Deciding that the cold was working against me, I kept the second ones in my pocket until I was ready to pop them on.  Got a few spares now...

What did the dealer charge?  Thanks.

As I recall it was an hour and a half.  They did it when I had a bunch of stuff done so I can't find the bill.

I just called and confirmed an hour and a half charge.  My thought at the time was if they break them they replace them.

Dealer installed them for $85. Money well spent considering the previous posts. They do look great!

I have to add my .02 cents worth.  I needed to replace the volume switch on 01FLTRSE.  I had those switch caps for probably a year.  I figured perfect time......well I snapped one of the caps, luckily the dealer GAVE me a replacement.  Things went okay til the end when I pushed the cruise resume/set switch back on a bit too hard. All hell broke loose.....had to buy another cruise switch cause I broke it, pinched a wire re installing the housing....turned out to be a 6-7 hour ordeal.  Funny this was just posted, as I did this a few days ago and I will tell anyone that will listen......what a gigantic pain, return them to the dealer or have dealer install. I always learn the hard way :-\   If you do install them, be careful not to scratch the "chrome" on the directional buttons, I put some black tape over the edges.  The housing will scratch them when you reassemble the pieces.   GOOD LUCK !
