Help need pipes for FLHRS
« on: July 24, 2005, 09:10:23 PM »

I just ugraded from a 883 sportster th a new Road king Custom.  I had sampson pipes on the sportster and miss the sound. I heard a bike with screaming eagle slip ons and was not impressed. I also heard a bike with Rineharts and it sounded great but woundered it it would bee too loud on long trips. I was told to not just add slip ons but to install a true dual system.  Does anyone have any suggestions.

I have Rineharts on my R/K and love the looks and the sound. I agree with a true-dual which eliminates the cross over pipe.  If not for performance then for the different sound.  Bassani also has a true dual which is supposed to perform very well.  I don't find that my pipes are too loud unless I'm trying to talk to someone in a parking garage. But If you don't like loud pipes, Rinehart offers a quiet baffle.

I've heard that the 'quiet baffle' for the rineharts is for the smaller motor.  Not sure I'd want to restrict the larger motor that much.     [smiley=nervous.gif]   spyder

SC,

Rhineharts are now sold by default with the 2 1/4 inch baffle in them and they are great sounding and look good.   I ran into some issues with them and the rear cyclinder pipe cracking at teh starter.   Bub did buy my pipes back through the store I bought them at and I recently purchased the D&D Fat Cats with both the tapered baffle and the perfomance baffle.   I have decided to keep the tapered baffles with the ghost pipe on the left side as you sit on the bike.   In the Electra Glide forum I posted some pictures under the heading of D&D Fat Cats.

Good luck with the pipe decision.

I am running a Bassani Power curve system with Bassani straight cut 2" core !
Love the sound and the torque. Dyno jet has a map for this system, and works great.
Dyno's out at 92 hp and 98 fpt. very respectable for a 95" 2002 SERK with 63,500 miles.
Keep your eye on the 'Cam' tensioners.....mine were changed at 50K and were down to the last drop....

Good luck with what ever you pick, everyone has an opinion on this subject.
