Rock Out With Your Bailout- AIG Parties with your tax dollars!

After government rescue, insurance firm AIG partied at swank resort

OCTOBER 7--Days after federal officials agreed to an $85 billion bailout of American International Group, the insurance firm spent more than $440,000 for a corporate retreat at a swanky California resort. An invoice from the week-long getaway, a copy of which you'll find below, was obtained by the congressional panel that has been holding hearings this week about Wall Street collapses and executive excess. The late-September AIG gathering at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach cost $443,343, according to the invoice. The six-figure sum covered hotel rooms, banquets, golf fees, and spa services at the resort south of Los Angeles. However, company funds apparently were not spent on exploding cakes or urinating ice statues. (2 pages)

I want a refund?   >:(

I say we either get our $$$ back or we find some new folks for congress.  Those clowns in DC need to step up or get packed up and go home.

If 200,000,000 taxpayers paid for the $440,000.00 party, my share is .002 cents.  I want it back and I want it back now!   :sauer005:

Come on guys, don't you think you're being just a little harsh?  There's a lot of stress involved in screwing over your shareholders and the American public, and a good retreat is excellent stress relief.  Think of it as an investment in the health and well being of these fine executives.

Talon, why would the rep's care, they  view themselves as CEO's also. . To quote your timely post on another thread:

"Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years

Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.
You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.

Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275, 000.00 during the last years of their lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA..! ZILCH...

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

Oh, you can bet that the Congress and all other politicians care about this blatant, in your face, chit by the execs at AIG.  All eyes are focused on this whole bail out thing, and this is just pouring jet fuel on the fire.  For just this once, there will be consequences on this one.

Well if no one ever questions them they won't care, they'll keep doing as they are now, and people will keep complaining to each other but doing nothing.
Besides, in an election year they might pay a little more attention if they receive a flood of comments from concerned constituents. My take on it is if you don't do anything, you have no right to complain, unless they feel that their every move is being scrutinized and that people are really watching them they won't change. How many of us know how our rep's are voting? Have you looked at their voting record? If so, when you see something you really don't agree with do you contact them? As with most Americans, the answer is probably not, so why would they change if they can get away with thing's unchallenged?  :nixweiss: Just my thoughts.

I know where my Senator is- in Washington DC at his corruption trial. This is what he has to say about that.....

STEVENS: Well but, you got to, you got to just stand back and say what's going to happen when it's all over. You got to get a mental attitude that these guys can't really hurt us. You know, they're not going shoot us. It's not Iraq. What the hell? The worst that can be done, the worst that can happen to us is we round up a bunch of legal fees and, and might lose and we might have to pay a fine, might have to serve a little time in jail. I hope to Christ it never gets to that, but, and I don't think it will. But I don't, I'm developing the attitude that I don't think I did anything wrong......
