I don't have an interesting story, and I'm a lousy story teller anyway.  My contribution to this thread is just my personal appeal to anyone reading it to be generous with your tips.  For anyone who isn't aware of the pay scale for wait staff, what most establishments do is pay about half of minimum wage and assume tips will make up the difference.  They are actually allowed to do that under the minimum wage law.  I've seen many a waitress bust her butt for an hour or more with a hard to please group and then get stiffed with a buck or two for a tip.  My personal feeling is 20% minimum for adequate service, and outstanding service can call for 30% or more.  When in doubt, round up.

Jerry

I agree with you. But, they should earn the tip not think it is automatic.

Used to have a "friend" who would borrow money all the time, or didn't have money when ordering food. Whenever you would ask from money back, he would explain how "friends don't owe friends"...then one day we were heading somewhere and I asked him to put $10.00 worth of gas in my car (Pinto Station Wagon, school-bus orange with real simulated wood-panel sides, I was the envy of everyone in high school...) two days later he asked if I had that ten dollars I had borrowed...effin cheap bastid!!! I said "friends don't owe friends"...he said "real friends pay their debts"...last time I saw him I told him I would kill him if he ever came around me again...

Oh, and I usualy tip at least 30% if the service is good, been known to tip 100% if the service was excellent...

Lap dances don't count for that kind of "service"...100% is the norm in a ti++y bar.   :o ::) :P
