Regional Service Rep
« on: October 16, 2008, 12:22:40 PM »

Told me that the 110's were puking all over the place during Milwaukee...can't be too good an advertisement for the motor company when at their signature event they had the "class of the field" special edition cvo bikes sitting on the side of the road with overheated motors...face it guys they have no intention of making these things run right and god help you if you have a leak after the warranty is up...we're on our own so good luck to everyone with one of these lemons...I find it a little hard to believe that with all the problems they are still crowing about how great the cvo bikes are...perhaps we are all not getting the message out...we need to be telling all of our friends, associates and riding buddies about the problems...maybe then we can get the motor company to help us out...but I doubt it...I saw two '08 CVO ultras in NH recently one a 1K under msrp and the other at 31,995...maybe that says something, but again I don't think anybody is listening.

puking all over the place during Milwaukee

We were all over Milwaukee and never saw that.

In fact during the parade my 03 Classic with 47K miles got to hot and shut down.
Waited 5 minutes and it started back up and saw a few other bikes that had shut down but no CVO's.
On this site there are many that have had legitimate issues with their 110 and have expressed that to others but "getting the message out" is not the purpose of this site.
Spreading the news is great but there is more here than just discussions on the 110!

There's nothing wrong with this bike! we can't find anything wrong with this bike! Did I mention that noise is normal and they're supposed to make that sound!!! ::) ::) ::) ;D ;)

Spreading the word among the outside world can't be good for resale value either.

What goes around comes around.  What I don't say about something known to be an issue so that someone else will later pay more for what I've got bites me in the ass when someone else doesn't speak up about a problem child I'm interested in buying.

I went through the entire Zippers fiasco after a member here had done it before, tells me he knew of exactly the issues I then went through, but never said a word when he could have because he hoped to get a little recovery from Zippers and thought his chances might be better if he kept his mouth shut.

Fairness or karma or whatever; it's a two way street.  I'll let someone know about the problem children when they exist.  Buy bikes to ride and enjoy anyway.  Resale value has nothing to do with it.  A decent resale is nice of course.  But it's purely a bonus at some untold time down the road.

My 07 serk had marbles in a can slap, thrashing top end and all sorts of noises like my 4cam does.  A rinehart 2-1 fixed it.
The Road Sofa has XM radio with auto volume control gonculators built in!, cool!  A D&D await...

I did supply the new owner with all the documents and knowledge I had going into the deal, for karmas sake and fact that I am not a real jerk off, only on websites...

He didn't care, he wanted that particular bike and was willing to risk the exposure...Just nuts n bolts...

I was in Milwaukee, and I have not seen any 110's in trouble. I know that you had several issues with your bike, but there is no need to be so fatalistic. Yes, they have that heat issue, and yes they leak. Once repaired properly, however, it seems to work. '09's seem to out of trouble (let the mileage tell us for sure).

I too was in Milwaukee, did not see any other CVO's in trouble but I did experience it myself, got caught in a traffic jam on the interstate trying to get off to head to Miller Park, mine got so hot I could hardly stand it, began to sound like the upper end was going to fly apart at any second and wouldn't idle at all.  I finally made it to an exit shut her down under a shade tree and let her sit for a half hour or so.  That was enough to get started again so I just rode it in to the Hotel and parked it for the night.  The next day we did a run up to Door County area and it was fine but soon as I got back in Milwaukee and she began to heat up again.  Saturday I didn't even start it upm was afraid to because I wanted to make sure she brought me home on Sunday.  Made it home ok but enroute is when my oil leak began.  The following week dealer did the 0905, so far no leaks yet, still have quite a lot of upper end chatter.  Am getting ready to do a tuner, more air and probably true duals.  We'll see what that does to it.

I believe the MOCO Reps were referring to the profit margins on the grossly inflated CVO pricing?  :nixweiss:  :huepfenjump3:

Are you certain that the margin on a SEUC is better than on a stock bone standard E-Glide?

hey louie...wtf...you work for the company or something?  yes, the motor company makes more dollars per unit on the CVO than on the regular bikes...on a percentage basis it is slightly more, but on a dollar basis it is significant...and yes, many people are having issues with these bikes.  the motor company would not come out with a product upgrade for no reason at all...you see the heat shields on the 2009's...guess what, they are not there for looks.  the damn bikes run hotter than they should.  you see the revised exhaust routing...well it too is to keep the heat from the rider and passenger...harley does not have it right yet...and with the examples of engineering they have shown so far they may never get it right...I love Harleys and mine in particular but it is far from perfect and the only way it will ever change is if those of us that are providing the motor company with our hard earned dollars through the purchase of their products let them know how we feel...

The heat shields aren't on just the CVO's, they're also on some of the regular touring rigs too.  The engines will run a lot cooler when you put a freer flowing AC and pipes on it and have the Air fuel ratio brought down some from that very lean EPA 14.7.   The EPA regulations are what's hurting these engines, not the MoCo.  Granted they've had their design problems and going with the cheaper foreign-made parts, but it's the EPA restrictions that are causing that excessive heat.  I put true duals and got the AFR down to about 13.7 and my 110 runs a lot cooler than it did with the AFR at 14.7.

This guy hit the nail on the head! I see NOTHING they've done to insure these motors are any better than when first introduced. They made a stronger bandaid for em, is the way I see it. FTF!!! FTW!!! and FTD!!! ;)

exactly!!  These engines are better, the moco has made improvements over the years, look back at the EVO, how many had base & head gasket failures, the shovel, head gaskets and exhuast leaks were very common. I am not in any way defending the moco as they could be doing much better. The point here is that over the years the EPA requirements have made thing more and more difficult on them.
