Fender Problem...
« on: August 01, 2005, 07:20:38 PM »

For entirely embarrassing reasons, I find myself in need of a front fender for an 'O5 SEEG II.  Black Cherry would be a nice color and would nicely match the existing sheet metal on the rest of the bike... A fat boy fender appropriately painted might be nice...

Oops... [smiley=furious.gif]

By the way, I happen to know that my SEEG is MUCH faster than my wife's FXDL!!!!   [smiley=shocked2.gif]

We had one guy out in the street blocking the traffic so we could go, and the lead cage just zipped around him and came on in, and my wife really lit it up, (or it sounded like it anyway), started to go but saw the SUV and stopped.  (yanked in the clutch and the motor revved) .   BUT,  the traffic was coming, and I thought she had gone, so, (for some stupid reason), I felt like I needed to "protect" her from the oncoming cage and went to jump out there, only.....  she hadn't really gone anywhere...(remember the oncoming traffic?)   So, up the back and over the other side I went, shooting her off the other side of the bike and down the street, tossed my bike, and went down pretty hard, scrambling around trying to drag her out of the traffic, etc...  Down went all the bikes, peoples everywhere helping us up and getting our rides out of the way...  and the fat lady in the SUV just motors right on through!

Oh well, nobody but me hurt, and only my bike damaged for the most part.  Now I'm tellin' her, " she who hesitates is lost, and he who leaps is lost, hell, I guess all is lost!"   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Luckily, my wife is a forgiving little angel....

Please.....  somebody say they have a fender for me...  the stealer wants $879.00 for the damned thing.... and my pride is really damaged at this point...

I did manage to put CVO card on a half a dozen bikes at the rally though!  Lots of CVO's up there...  Kinda cool! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

That really sucks Breeze.  I mean, it's just fracked up that you ran over your wife's bike  [smiley=7.gif].  But it still really sucks.  Just very glad that little more than pride seems to be seriously injured.  From the way you describe it it seems like you're pretty lucky if all both bikes need is one front fender between them.

Keep an eye out on eBay for your fender.  I've got an automatic search setup there for sheetmetal parts and over the last couple of months the same guy has listed the same fender about a half dozen times.  It had one little dimple that looked to me to be an easy repair that would repair without paint.  I think he'd been asking like $450 for the fender.  Which is probably more than it'd get unless someone just really needed one; like you do now.

Good luck and glad everyone is ok  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

We started in a private parking lot, but the carnage ended up in the street...  I hit her pretty hard I guess...  A testament to how tough her rear end is though. (no puns...)  All I did was bend her turn signal bar and scratch up her fender...

CoolBreeze, sorry to hear of your mishap.  Are you telling me that a front fender costs almost nine hundred bucks or a '05 SEEG?  I just got a rock chip in my '04 SEEG front fender and don't know if I'll be able to touch it up, so was wondering how much a replacement would be........that's just too much.  Your bike went down on the pavement and all you need to replace is a front fender?  That's amazing!  Glad you didn't get hurt too.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  spyder

Everytime I wash the red bike I eyeball the leading edge of the front fender for the same reason Spyder.  You just know that someday it's going to happen.  Already got a couple of divots in the outer fairing.  Touched 'em up as well as I can with bottles of touch up paint and they go out and try to collect more divots.  All part of the process.

One thought on the front fender though.  A lot of us have added a center moulding to the front fenders.  It really is a nice addition that seems to very much complete what is otherwise an empty space between the stripes.  However, if you get a divot at the leading edge or shortly behind it there is a front of the fender trim piece that matches that moulding.  It would both cover the divot and protect from any new ones.  The fender would have to be drilled to accept it of course.  But if you liked the look of the trim piece it might be an option to consider in lieu of a replacement multi million dollar fender.

Unfortunately, my rock divot on the front fender, gas tank, and two on front fairing are all in places where nothing could be affixed to cover them up (short of a band-aid) that would look right......they're not 'centered' or right on a leading edge or anything.  I've ordered the touchup paint and will try that.......the next step will be to order new skins and wrap all of them in a protective coating (maybe that nylac).........wonder if you can powder coat those nylon fairings?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Har!    spyder

Yup,  that thar chunk of tin hangin' over the front fender is....  $879.00, without shipping.  (and I tried Surdyke and Crystal River and those kind of folks, and they saud there is no discount available on them 'cause it's custom paint.)  And my dealer won't even sell me the paint...  " the color is proprietary...."    I think I'll stick a custom Arlen Ness fender on it and have the local hot rod painter fix me up....

Does anybody know the actual difference in width between a wide glide front fender and an FL front fender?  (My softy has a duece front end and I don't know if that's the same as a wide glide or not...)

Coolbreeze,
Sorry to hear about your mishap  [smiley=cry2.gif]. I feel your pain, had a similar situation happen to me with previous bike. Was turning around in my yard and got stuck on some wet grass and was backing up and backed into a tree  [smiley=furious.gif]. Mind you this wasn't as expensive repair as yours (it was a vivid black Fatboy, and factory fender cost me $250.00 plus installation). Had to chalk it up to one of those valuable (expensive) lessons learned in life. Hope things work out for you and you get it back in the wind soon.
