Second gear take off
« on: October 18, 2008, 07:16:01 PM »

Just got 2008 fxdse last week and have about 125 miles on it. Love the bike and while riding and getting used to it, I took off in second gear a couple times and the bike bucked a little and then went. Should I sweat this with all the talk of not lugging the 110 engine at all.
Thanks

I don't understand the question, if you plan on starting off in second gear all the time yes you will have a problem. If you plan on using first gear like it was intended ,don't sweat the error.

I have taken off a couple of times in second when it was new to me, and have put on about 8000 miles since, with no problems. The only problems I've had with mine has been the hand grip cap coming loose and the gas tank loosened up on me. With all that I've heard about the 110 problems, I feel lucky so far.

What color is yours? Searched your posts and see that you haven't done a introduction yet. Congrats on your new FXDSE2!   :2vrolijk_21:

I have the scarlet red and crimson color. Went to dealer to see the new Rocker C, saw the FXDSE and I was all done. Got it a week later. Thanks for the responses-by the way taking off in second was by mistake not on purpose and was pissed when it happened!

I'm with Howie. Taking off in second gear is detrimental in a drag race. But in everyday riding it's just a nuisance.

It'd work on the red bike.  The SERG would just fall down though.  Plunk.

2nd gear bad, 3rd gear even worse! I did 3rd gear the other day turning into the dealership scared the oncoming cages and me!
Must be getting real old.

Everybody makes mistakes, a real person admits it, so you are way ahead of the game! Just as an aside, I've been riding since I was fourteen or so, and just recently took a motorcycle riding course, highly recommend it!
