cam specs for 05 SE 103
« on: October 19, 2008, 11:26:44 AM »

Morning,

I'm trying to locate some information and hoping someone may have it filed away.

- stock cam specs for an 05 SE 103. Either the SE grind number or the actual specs will help.

- the 3:37 primary gear change part numbers, found references to the actual change, but no part numbers.

Thanks,

The cam that came in the 103 is the CVO 253. I do not have the specs handy.
If no one else post them I will get the part numbers for the gearing change tommorow when I am at the shop.

Brian - what does this change the ratio too? the numbers don't show up on HD's site.

And do you have to change the chain?

I'll answer for Brian;

this change will conver your final drive ratio from 3.15 to 3.37 and the stock chain will work fine.

So Jim - roughly - how much will this increase the RPM's at say 70 mph?
And is this a comp sprocket?

RPM's will increase by approximately 7%, and the 40269-85A is a compensator sprocket.  Using round numbers, if you currently run 3000 rpms @ 70 mph, after the change you would run around 3200 rpm @ 70 mph.

Jerry - great, that is just what I'm looking to do, by adding a 6 speed. Decrease the R's by 400 with the trans and raise them 200 with the sprockets. Should give me just the RPM range I am looking for with a little more bottom end.
I felt while riding in areas of the Carolina mountains that I was always looking for a little more or a little less in gearing.

Changing the final drive I feel will give me the extra "oomph" I am looking for while not hurting my highway running.

The attachment is something I put together a few years back for someone else thinking about doing the same thing.  It will give you a better idea of the differences with the OD and then with the OD and primary change.

I installed a sixer in my 06 CUSE with the stock 25/36 (1.44 ratio) I was not satisfied with the marriage of two, Here's why... I was continually searching between gears looking for the "sweet" spot of riding especially 45-70 mph. A riding friend recommended changing the primary gearing. After investigating my options, I opted using Baker's 23t compensating sprocket and left the oem clutch basket alone which resulted in a1.57 ratio compared to 1.54 ratio changing to Harley's 24t comp. sprocket and the 36 clutch basket. Overall cost was slightly less with the Baker install and am very pleased with this set up, Highway riding i can now shift into six below 70 mph and stay there if speed flucuates lower. At 75 mph cruising, The rpm difference is at 400 rpm higher, Gas milege actually increased utilizing more lower end torque (getting there quicker helped) In the low-mid gears she pulls strong.
:2vrolijk_21: After having both to compare, I would definitley recommend the switch with the sixer gear set. Below i attatched Baker's link to look at.     http://www.bakerdrivetrain.com/drivetraincomponents/comp-sprockets.htm

Ride Safe.

Isn't the Baker sprocket a "nom-comp" item?
